It has been a couple of weeks since Luke mumbled them heartfelt words into the darkness but he hadn't quite plucked enough courage to say them in the daylight.
Today was the 1st of July. The golden glow of the summer sun reflected around the store, filling the space with a wondrous feeling of life.
As he did during most shifts, his eyes followed her as she whirled and twirled, helping customers and simply making the world a better place.
Tonight, would be the first day of open mic night. So, everyone was in high spirits. The rooftop had been strung up with pretty copper lights and tables had been set up with food and drinks.
Retro Records, had become the place to be. One of the regulars to the studio had recently had her platform explode on TikTok. It brought many new faces into the building, including investors and sponsors to support the budding artist programme Jack had set up.
Eleanor has signed up for the new programme. She would get tailored support in writing, composing and producing music as well as marketing and getting herself out there for record labels. It was due to start in the fall and would last a year, with a certificate and hopefully a record deal by the end.
She wasn't sure if that was what she really wanted with her life, the spotlight...stage life, that certainly wasn't for her. But she knew it would be silly of her to pass up on such an opportunity.
The past couple of weeks had been great. Summer was finally in full force. The heat was welcomed and her skin wore the tan well. Naturally her hair had lightened in the sun and light freckles dotted her skin. It was in moments like this, she was thankful for the move.
Chase had finally got her to stand up on the surfboard but she was still yet to convince Luke to give it a go. It was strange. An Australian who doesn't surf. But then again, Luke was never one to fit in a box, not one to conform to the stereotype.
Eleanor had been in contact with her sister a lot more in the past week or two than in the whole time she had moved. Abby was finally letting the grudge go. In all honesty, deep down Abby was probably jealous that Eleanor had escaped.
She didn't know why, but she just felt like she couldn't tell Abby about Luke yet.
Shaking herself out of her thoughts, she caught Luke staring at her, again. Giggling to herself, Eleanor approached him.
Summer looked good on him.
His skin radiated health. His blonde curls bleached lighter in the sun and he wore a smile so effortlessly.
His style had altered too. Quite often now, Luke adorned a tank in some color, today it was white, an unbuttoned red shirt, black trousers and converse. His fingers were still decorated with rings and his favorite chain was still pressed against his throat.
