We all know that the ocean can be a dangerous place with unknown depths, currents and invisible hazards. But yet that doesn't stop us from swimming in a lake or riding the surf or jumping from the top of a cliff into the deep blue below.
Even with the knowledge of the potential risk, we still take the plunge.
Luke had been standing at the top of the cliff, staring into the unknown for what felt like forever.
Would diving in be the right decision?
Would it destroy everything?
Had it destroyed everything?
It was weird, Luke expected to feel something after admitting his feelings but Eleanor's unreadable expression left him feeling rather perplexed.
It felt like a game of chess, he knew he couldn't undo his move nor could he predict hers, but God did he need a win.
After everything he had been through with his attempt at starting a new life, losing her would be a devastating blow he wouldn't survive.
*** It was now July 12th, exactly one week since Luke had said them three vulnerable words.
During the moment he hadn't even processed the lack of reciprocation. He hadn't said it to be validated, he said it because he felt it. However, this wasn't the outcome he had expected.
Even though he tried to push his doubts to the dark side of the moon, they found a way to shine every time he picked up his guitar.
It wasn't the start of a song or a complete verse or even a chorus, but he played around with the keys and the words fell into place; words that he was all too afraid of.
And I know that you don't
But if I ask you if you love me
I hope you li-li-li-lie
Lie to me
Luke was desperate to hear it back no matter what form it took, although he had hoped the girl he longed for, felt the same about him.
Spirals of doubt whirlpooled in his mind.
Had he read the signs wrong?
He had assumed all the kissing, sleeping together and romantic gestures were an indication of something more.
