I'm a straightforward girl. I see what I like and I take it. It's been the same when I was little and it's still the same now. So when I went out clubbing with my friends that night and I saw this highly attractive guy, I just knew I had to have him...

I glared at the feline perched in front of my apartment door. The neighbors let their abomination loose again.
Hearing my footsteps, the orange cat popped an eye open and met my gaze. Instantly, its shackles rose as it crouched, hissing at me with newfound hostility.
I narrowed my eyes. It was the same thing every day.
I disliked animals, especially perceptive ones similar to this cat. It saw things that weren't meant to be seen. The dumb thing always found its way onto my doorstep, as if it enjoyed getting spooked every time it looked at me.
Ignoring its sharp claws that attacked without hesitation, I pushed it aside with my foot and unlocked my door. After that tiring day at work, I wasn't interested in entertaining a single soul.
I dumped my bag and jacket on the side table and trod across the wooden floors sluggishly.
I was tired. Rightfully so after working another twelve-hour shift. I really wanted to find a better-paying job, but as someone who didn't exist under this kingdom's jurisdiction, it was really hard for me to do so. The forged citizenship card I got when I moved here limited me.
I sighed.
I guess that was my fate for running away from home. However, I felt more free than I had living with my mother. I could finally do my own things. This was enough. I'd work myself to the bones before crawling back to that woman.
I kicked my shoes off and tugged off my shirt, tossing it aside as I entered my bedroom. I needed a bath badly. My skin crawled with the grime of the machines that I spent all day working on. If I didn't lay down and destress when it was finally weekend again, I'd lose my mind.
I filled the tub and threw in a bath bomb, grabbing my phone and some sliced pineapples, as I was certain I'd be chilling in there for a while.
Once my bath was ready, I prepared to step inside but paused. My eyes snapped toward my bathroom sink and I frowned.
There was nothing out of the ordinary. My makeup products were exactly how I left them. However, I could feel that something had changed.
My heart thudded.
Was it my mother?
I grabbed my towel and wrapped my body before walking over to inspect it myself.
I closed my eyes and ran my finger lightly across the glossy white surface. The darkness latching onto my heart stirred, slowly awakening from the slumber I had forced it into. Black mist oozed from my hand, lightly caressing everywhere I touched to help me pinpoint the cause of my unease.
Fingerprints.
Someone touched my stuff.
Alarm bells rang in my mind as I calmly retracted the mist and allowed it to settle around my heart again. Then, as if I had noticed nothing, I kept my breaths slow and steady and walked out of my bathroom and into my bedroom.
