When had I ever felt so strongly for a person?

I closed my eyes and wrapped my arms around Remi's neck, falling into his kiss, falling into him. His every breath, every touch, every sigh of desire chipped away at the edges of my guarded heart. I longed for this man.

I longed for the future we could have.

"You're crying again," he murmured against my lips, pulling away to scan my face worriedly. "Are you okay?"

I looked at him.

I truly looked at him.

My restless mind reacted to his eyes, replaying every emotion I'd ever seen in them since the moment we met. So full of life, so full of longing for something neither of us could fathom.

My lips parted on a whisper. "Am I okay?"

When last had I heard those words? When Rhea was alive? No... when my father tried to comfort me.

Remi furrowed his brows and leaned down to rest his forehead against mine. "Do you want to stop?"

I grabbed his hand and placed it against my face to cup my cheek. I closed my eyes and took a deep, steady breath to calm my thoughts.

Nothing else mattered right now. No more confusion.

"Remi... do you know what love is?" I asked, my voice unnaturally soft, as if I was afraid to speak my thoughts aloud.

Remi placed a kiss on my nose and murmured. "It's hard to put into words. It's different from person to person."

"Then how do you know you're in love? How do you know it's not the mating bond being forced on you?"

I needed clarity to sort out my thoughts and emotions, and Remi was the only person who could give it to me.

"When you're in love... You will find joy in every color of the rainbow."

I furrowed my brows. "What?"

He laughed at my confusion and leaned in to peck my lips. "It means that you will start to notice the little things. You will go from simply observing the rainbow after a storm, to vividly engraving each color of that rainbow so that it never disappears, even when the clouds scatter."

I hesitated. "So what color am I in your eyes?"

"You're blue," he murmured, placing another kiss on my lips. "You're red, green, orange. You are the rainbow, Celeste. My rainbow."

His words made my heart flutter, and all my worries about telling him vanished.

Remi would never see me differently from what I am now. It didn't matter if I was a mere human or an assassin; he simply wanted me.

Celeste.

I wrapped my arms around him and tugged him down so my lips could skim his ear. I murmured, "Then take me."
