I'm a straightforward girl. I see what I like and I take it. It's been the same when I was little and it's still the same now. So when I went out clubbing with my friends that night and I saw this highly attractive guy, I just knew I had to have him...

When I got to the castle's entrance, I saw Remi and Riana standing side by side, looking into the distance.
They sensed my presence and turned around. Remi's face lit up into a broad smile as he beckoned me closer.
Riana frowned but said nothing. She turned back to wait patiently as black SUVs popped up on the horizon.
I stood next to Remi, who immediately placed his heavy hand on my waist to keep me close. Anya stood behind me with her eyes planted at her feet, and the guards circled us for protection.
I looked up at Remi to see an odd gleam in his eyes as he gazed at the approaching cars.
"Excited?" I asked, digging my elbow into his side to get his attention.
He looked down at me and nodded, not hiding his smile. "Leon and Theo are my best friends. It became hard to see each other once we all took the throne, so rare moments like this are always anticipated." He explained.
He looked like a little kid giddily waiting for his friends so he could go out and play. I chuckled. "I know that Alpha King Theodore is here hoping to find his mate, but why is Alpha King Leon attending? He's already mated."
Remi chuckled. "His little sister has yet to find her mate. She's in her mid-twenties and has been crying because they wouldn't let her leave the castle to look for him herself. When I sent the invitation, she happily accepted, but as an unmated royal female, she needed a chaperone. The queen is accompanying her, and as an extension, Leon is coming as well."
I furrowed my brows. "He can't live a few days without his mate?"
"Well, when that mate is swollen with his child, it's kind of hard to. We wolves are highly possessive of our females, even more so when they're vulnerable and expecting."
"Oh..." I had no idea Queen Starr was pregnant.
"Carrying a pregnancy can be hard for wolves, so imagine it on a little human like yourself. You may not survive," the former queen murmured, still looking ahead.
I looked at her to see her hands clenching her dress at her sides, and even though I couldn't see her face, I felt she wasn't in the best mood.
Remi stiffened at her words, and his arm around me tightened. I looked up to find him staring at his mother with a difficult look on his face.
I frowned.
Was there something there that I needed to know? From what I'd learned, humans had no problem carrying a wolf pup.
"Not everyone has the same experience," I said, hoping that it would appease the tension. Even if I didn't like her, she was still Remi's mother and her reaction made me think that maybe there was more to her being so against me.
"You're right. I'll never let anything threaten you." Remi smiled and bent to place a kiss on my forehead.
I leaned into him and hummed. "I'm stronger than you think."
