I turned my head to see two maids speedily approaching us. Their eyes were laser-focused on the wounded omega. It didn't look like they saw me at all.

The girl flinched and bowed her head at the maids. "Madam Maria, Nya."

One of the ladies immediately chastised her. "Anya! Why are you so useless!? We sent you to pick herbs for the tea party the young miss is hosting and instead, you're lounging around here!"

"B-but-"

"No buts! Don't you know how important this party is for the young miss!? I demand an explanation!"

Anya trembled and glanced at the other lady. She hesitantly murmured. "I-I wasn't the only one picki-"

"Nonsense! The others trusted you to hold the bag of herbs, yet you let them down by playing around in the mud!? Look at you! You're a mess! This is why we should've never let an omega like you work here!"

I stared at the two hostile maids with a raised eyebrow. I willed myself not to get irritated, but it was hard not to.

If you were going to ask for an explanation, at least listen to it. Unreasonable people like this needed to get their heads slapped off their shoulders.

"Who's the young lady?" I asked, attracting their attention.

Surprise colored their eyes. "You're the human the Alpha brought in."

My guard chimed. "Address her with respect."

They hurriedly bowed. "Right! My apologies. My name is Maria, and this is Nya. We're the maids who serve the princess."

My eyebrows shot up. "Remi has a sister?"

Maria shook her head. "The young princess is Alpha King Remington's cousin. Her father is the commander of our guards. The young princess stays in the castle whenever her father visits."

"Oh right. Cousins are given titles as well, huh?" I murmured to myself.

Discontent colored Maria's voice as she raised her head to meet my eyes. "The young princess is a precious member of the royal family. She's the only heir to the throne until Alpha King Remington finds his mate and births an heir. She shouldn't be spoken about so lightly, as her status holds a lot of weight."

And mine didn't?

I quirked an eyebrow in amusement. This old hen didn't like me. Was my human status that bad to them? Well, considering the treatment they were giving to this omega, it probably was.

"I didn't tell you to raise your head," I mused.

There was no reason for me not to have fun with their hatred. I hated royal semantics and childish behavior. This was why I never attended meetings with other nations back when I stayed with my family. I couldn't be bothered to deal with adults who got stuck in puberty.
