"What the fuck just happened!?"

"Did the king just..."

"Oh, my God."

"That poor servant."

"Why would he do that?"

"The King is crazy..."

"All for a human?"

"She's his mate, isn't she?"

"I'm scared..."

Thump

Thump

Thump

My heart thudded amongst the stares and whispers scattered around me. Remi's eyes narrowed on the dead body on the floor, his lips curled as he continued to snarl.

My heart jumped, and I gripped his arm to tug him to me. "Remi!"

He whipped around and flung my arm away. "Don't touch her!"

Caught off guard, I fell onto my ass and winced.

What the actual fuck? Did he not recognize me?

A loud growl reverberated around the room. Goosebumps quickly littered my skin, and I instinctively touched my thigh for the dagger I always carried on me before coming to the palace. When my fingers brushed nothing but the fabric of my dress, I clenched my fists and looked over as Spencer strode towards us.

His eyes glowed furiously, and the dominance radiating off his shoulders was enough to choke me to death. I had to circulate my powers, and I could feel my eyes deepening as my spirit rose to the threat.

I bit my tongue to hold it down and pushed myself to my feet.

Spencer took Remi by the color and roared. "What the fuck are you doing!? Do you not recognize your own mate!?" He stared angrily into Remi's eyes, making me nervous.

Why wasn't he mentioning how black Remi's eyes were? Was I the only one who could see it?

Gasps rang throughout the room as Spencer basically solidified my position.

Remi's hand grabbed his father's, and I was surprised to see his elongated nails digging into his skin, drawing blood.

Spencer narrowed his eyes. "Something's wrong. His eyes are unfocused."

Remi's uncle and Theo quickly appeared, and all three alphas surrounded Remi to block him from the surrounding audience.

Unfocused? Was that what it looked like to them?

I frowned as I stared at Remi's contorted expression. If it wasn't for his black eyes, I'd thought he was on the verge of insanity.

My fingers twitched, but I had no idea what to do. This had never happened before. What did I do to him?
