"Celeste, what are you doing?" Remi asked, his lips tilted up in amusement.

I squinted and leaned in close to finish my inspection. My fingers tightened on his chin as I turned his head from side to side.

He leaned in and kissed my nose. "I'm fine." He murmured, but his words or actions barely registered.

I couldn't sense anything.

Nothing malevolent was stuck to him, so how in the world was he being affected by me? I couldn't understand.

This whole situation was stressing me out.

I almost wished my mom was here. She definitely knew the reason for this.

"Celeste."

"Hm?" I blinked at his inquisitive eyes. "What? Do you feel something?"

He grinned and wiggled his eyebrows, his hips thrusting up so I could feel his erection. "I feel a lot of things right now."

I rolled my eyes and got off his lap. I sat at the edge of the bed, looking at my gown that's hung on the wall, neatly wrapped up.

I bit my lips, the heavy feeling in my chest getting worse the more I looked at the dress. I couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong, and I couldn't figure out what it was.

I'd spent every time I had in the library reading books on werewolves. There was only one book that mentioned assassins but the details weren't quite accurate. If I needed information on my kind, then I needed to go back to the clan. However, there was no excuse I could give Remi to do so.

The mating ball was in a few hours. My anxiety continued to climb when I thought of Remi's eyes. I'd never seen them again, but that one time was enough to drive a knife through my chest.

"Celeste?" He murmured my name and came up behind me, wrapping his arms around my midsection. His chin cushioned my neck and he gently swayed our bodies. "What's troubling you?"

"Everything," I breathed, my hand cupping his cheek. "I'm stressed."

A kiss brushed my shoulder. "Talk to me. Maybe I can help. You know I'm here if you need me."

I hummed and turned to look at him. He peered down at me with eyes brimming with concern and questions. They were so affectionate, an emotion I hadn't seen since Rhea died.

I sighed, my heart giving in to the prospects of this eternal love. A ghost of a smile tilted my lips. "After the mating ball, I'll tell you everything. I promise."

Surprise lit up his face before his smile widened. He leaned down and captured my lips, sucking me into an emotional kiss that portrayed his gratitude. It left me reeling, wanting more even after he pulled away.

I wet my lips and placed a hand on his chest, pushing him down on the bed. The second his back touched the mattress, I climbed onto him.

"I bet I can make you cum under 10 minutes," I grinned, gripping my shirt and tugging it over my head.
