The woman hurriedly stood and bowed her head. "Alpha King Remington! It's lovely to meet you." She rushed out, nervously fiddling with her fingers.
Her demeanor did a complete 360, and I almost ran over there and swung my fist into her face.
I hated pretentious people.
Remi cleared his throat and closed the door behind him. "Mother, why are you here?"
I eyed him worriedly. Was he feeling better? So quickly?
Riana's face brightened. She smiled innocently and sidestepped me to walk towards her son. "You're awake! Lovely. Come, let me introduce you to someone."
I watched with my fists clenched as that woman walked past me, her sweet vomit-inducing scent brushing my nose as she did so.
She did a full curtsey in front of Remi and lowered her head. "Greetings, Your Highness. I am Alisa de Rosa, the queen's proxy."
She twisted her words eloquently, completely different from how she introduced herself to me.
I burned a hole into her head, wanting to tear it off but forced to stand still and watch everything play out. The second Remi did something I didn't like, I would leave. No hesitation. I'd never allow myself to be humiliated.
Remi's sharp voice pierced the air as he gave Alisa a brief once-over. "By whose command?"
"Mine," Riana spoke confidently, lightly touching her son's arm as if to calm him. "This is a good solution, Remi. If you think this is unfair to Celeste, it's not. She will have all authority and will perform her duties as queen diligently. However, when you make public appearances, we can use Alisa. If the people believe your mate is one of us, we can avoid the backlash before it even happens."
Remi growled and ripped his hand from his mother's. The air exploded with the power that radiated from his body. His authority, his dominance as the king enveloped the entire room and slammed into our shoulders. Even the spirit in me shrunk back and made itself small.
This was a new experience. I'd never felt a wolf's dominance before. It was something humans couldn't feel, but sense. It didn't affect us to this extent. Even as an irregular human who's bonded to a spirit, we didn't feel it like this.
Was this Remi's doing?
Was this because... we were mates?
Riana took a few steps back, her face flushed. The other woman in the room collapsed to her knees, whimpering.
I looked on in surprise.
I was perfectly fine under Remi's pressure, so to see that even his mother was affected shocked me. He wasn't letting up.
Riana gritted her teeth. "How dare you force your mother?"
Remi snarled. "How dare you disrespect my bond with my mate? Is your head full of lead?"
