Then

James

Sirius is demanding we all do something fun tonight because apparently we haven't done anything in so long that he's dying of boredom.

Dramatic git.

"Oh come on, let's pull a prank or something!" Sirius begs us excitedly. The problem with pranks right now is we have to plan it, and to plan it we have to focus. None of us have been very focused lately.

My mind is literally always on Regulus, which is not good when I'm around Sirius and trying not to let it slip that I love his baby brother.

Oh right, love. I love him.

I haven't told him yet because I don't want to freak him out, but yeah. I love him.

Remus is extra focused on school these days, almost like he's avoiding something else and school is his distraction.

Whatever works for him.

Pete is off with the girls every other day because him and Marlene are all of a sudden best friends.

Good for him, honestly. Marls is a good friend to have.

And Sirius has been clingy and mopey because everyone is busy.

Now he's calling us on it.

"Pranks take too much focus that none of us have at the moment, Pads." I tell him. "We have probably fifteen more minutes with Wormy over here before he ditches us for the girls again, and Remus is already fighting the urges to study."

"Am not!" Remus protests, but he's been eyeing his books all morning.

"My best mates have abandoned me already! I knew it would happen eventually, but this early in life? Incredibly insulting, it is."

"We are not abandoning you, Sirius." Peter says and pats him on the back to make him feel better.

"Really, Pads? It's a bit early for all the dramatics, don't you think?" Remus chimes in, rolling his eyes playfully as Sirius bangs his head off the table.

Like I said, dramatic git.

There was a random burst of laughter from the Slytherin table and we all look over. That's not something you usually hear from that side of the room.

It's Regulus and his friends messing around with something Barty has and it's making them all laugh hysterically.

My breathe catches in my throat for a moment at the sight of Regulus with head tilted back and a bright smile on his face. That is my favourite thing to see ever.

"This has to be a joke," Sirius grumbles angrily. His voice pulls me right back to reality. "Even that fucker has better friends than I do. Life is not fair."

"Really? We're worse friends than Barty Crouch and Evan Rosier? Now i'm offended!" Pete mumbles as he shakes his head in disapproval.

Something bitter makes it's way through me and I had to bite back the urge to make a comment about what Peter had just said.

Barty is a great friend to Reg, and clearly so is Evan. It bugs me how easy it is for them to talk shit about him.

They don't even know them.

"How about a party? That doesn't take much planning?" Sirius suggests excitedly. "We could invite the girls so Pete will come, and Remus can drink so he won't be thinking about his books, and you- well you can invite your new lover, or not. But you have to be there."
