Now
Regulus
Summer flew by so fast, but now it's time to go back to Hogwarts. None of us are sure how easy it will be to get back into the school without my mother being there, ready to cause a scene. Honestly, we're not looking forward to that.
We have a few days still to plan, but we're lost. James called his parents and asked them to come help us with a plan. I have barely seen his parents since school ended. Sirius told me they want to give us our space to figure out how to live together, and well... it's all been a lot. It was nice of them to consider that it might be overwhelming.
But now... now we need them to help us figure out what to do. We.. can't go in blindly.
I have to go with Sirius later to see our cousin, Andromeda. I haven't seen her since we were kids, and even then, she was older than me. I didn't really get on with her. We never fought, but she always liked Sirius better and we had nothing in common. I was always close with Narcissa. It made sense for us to be closer because well... Andromeda was a lot like Sirius and no one was like Bellatrix. Narcissa and I were just... there. The back ups.
So, not only do I have to spend a good amount of the day with James' parents, which is a little nerve wracking.. but now I also have to see my cousin who I haven't seen since I was young.
Great fucking day.
To make it even better, Barty and Evan have been cracking jokes about 'meeting the in laws' since they arrived this morning, and I've been thinking about kicking them out since the first one.
"Alright, they should be here any minute. Can you two just... try and behave?" James points his question to Barty and Evan, who are trying not to laugh at their own bloody joke at the moment. I roll my eyes, and Sirius smirks at me when he notices my annoyance towards my friends. Speaking of Sirius, he's been rather... clingy all day. Always basically by my side. It's strange.
"Yeah, no need to worry about us-" Evan begins but is cut off by Barty slapping his arm and the two of them start laughing again.
"Merlin, this is basically all they'll do. They're annoying, but harmless." I tell James, who nods his head and looks away from them.
Sirius leans over and says, "Are they always like this?"
"No. They think it's funny that James' parents are coming over here because.. well-" I pause. What am I supposed to say here? Because I'm nervous? They know I'm nervous, and they're making jokes about it? But genuinely.. what if they don't like me? What if they don't want me to be with James? James loves his parents more than anything. "Because James and I are together."
Sirius seemed to understand what I wasn't saying, and hums in response, which is more annoying than having him just say whatever's on his mind.
"Just say whatever you're thinking," I tell him.
"Are you nervous?" He asks me, and there's a light teasing, but mostly... it's just him asking a question.
I nod my head.
"Oh, Reg. You have nothing to worry about. James' parents adore you, and they know a lot of stories about you... Some you'd hate for me to share, but I- well I already did. They understand it was not easy for us, and they don't hold that against you."
"See? Why couldn't they just say that?" I ask him, looking towards my friends.
"Because they don't know James' parents," Sirius tells me. "And they're immature."
"This, coming from you." I say, smirking at him. "Is hilarious."
Sirius shrugs his shoulders innocently. Maybe he's right. I mean, he knows them better than I do. James doesn't seem worried either, and James... well... he would know how his parents feel about me. I guess... maybe I just need to relax.
