A few weeks had gone by and Sierra could sense some changes in her moms behavior. She was really cranky and standoffish to everyone, which was probably because of her wedding anniversary.
Her father and mother had a beautiful wedding in Savannah, Georgia by the beach in 1987, a year before Sierra was born. From the pictures she saw around the house, she could tell how in love those two were and for the most part that's exactly how it was. But with every good relationship came trouble and lots of problems.
When Sierra was born, Adel hadn't realized how attached he was going to be to his daughter. It was love at first sight as far as he was concerned and Sierra loved him just as much.
However that fact that her husband cared so much for his baby girl, jealousy was clearly evident within Adel. It got to a point so much that when Sierra was a teenager she was alway fighting with her daughter. Any decisions that had to do with Sierra, she would always oppose anything her husband said.
Adel was jealous because she felt that that once Sierra began to get older and independent. She also felt that Alex took Sierra away from her. Sierra was supposed to be her little girl who she could dress up and do girly things with.
But Sierra was more of the tough girl that loved playing sports and being active. It wasn't until guys started liking her in high school for her to start being more of a lady. Adel's longing for her daughter to be like her was so strong, it pushed Sierra more away from her. They may have looked alike but they were completely different. Adel was more controlling and self-centered whereas Sierra was more laid-back and extremely humble.
She was selfish and careless. which ultimately brought father daughter closer to each other. They had a bond that could not be broken and most of all, they had each other when her mother decided to be a bitch.
Yes a bitch. Her father said it himself once. He loved his wife so much but he couldn't understand why loving their daughter was such a problem. He wanted more children but he figured that since she couldn't seem to warm up to her only one that thinking about more would be even more difficult.
Months after Alex died, Sierra couldn't help but think how much happier and nicer Adel was to her. Yes, her mom was heartbroken and devastated as anyone would be but Sierra could tell how Alex not being there gave her a second chance to redeem herself to Sierra.
She felt bad for how she treated Sierra all those years and she realized how precious life and family were. She regretted treating Sierra so badly and she tried her best to build that relationship she always wanted, with new found respect and trust. That new relationship was the only way Sierra could convince her mother to start dating again but every once in a while her old self will come back.
Like now. In the grocery store. In the meat aisle.
Sierra and her mother were grocery shopping together today. Sierra was currently comparing prices for two types of steak, she was gonna cook tonight when her phone rang as her mother babbled along.
"Excuse me, mom." She slid to answer her phone.
"Hey, Renee how are you?"
"I'm doing alright. Listen, The mortgage company just called saying that we haven't paid the mortgage for the building in 15 days and I don't know how that could of happened because that was Evan's job, unless he forgot but you know how these asshole banks can be."
"Dammit, ugh okay. I'm going to call him right now and get this straight."
"Okay." Sierra hung up the phone and quickly called Evan, their accountant, the man she was paying to manage their money and big things, that important.
