J.K. Rowling is a British author and screenwriter who is best known for her seven-volume children's book series, Harry Potter. Although the Harry Potter author writes under the pen name J.K. Rowling, Joanne Rowling actually has no middle name. Staff at Bloomsbury Publishing requested that she use two initials rather than her full name, anticipating that young boys—their target audience—would not want to read a book written by a woman. The second initial of her pen name is the first name of her paternal grandmother, Kathleen.
