The final image of M. A. S. H. is designed to pull at the heartstrings more than anything. Hawkeye (Alan Alda) and Hunnicutt (Mike Farrell) have both survived the war and are heading home to the U. S., but the two best buds are too emotional to actually say their farewells out loud.
