Jimmy Buffett was born on December 25, 1946, in New York City. He is a singer-songwriter, musician, author, actor, and businessman from the United States. He is well known for his songs, which frequently depicts a lifestyle of "island escapism." Buffett has recorded popular songs with his Coral Reefer Band, including "Margaritaville" (number 234 on the Recording Industry Association of America's "Songs of the Century") and "Come Monday." He has a devoted following of "Parrotheads," as he is known.
Buffett is a popular author and was engaged in the development of two restaurant chains named after two of his most well-known songs: he now owns the Margaritaville Cafe restaurant chain and co-developed the now-defunct Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant chain. Buffett has a net worth of $550 million, making him one of the world's wealthiest musicians.
Buffett's third album, A White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean, was released in 1973. In 1974, he released the albums Living & Dying in 3/4 Time and A1A, in 1976, Havana Daydreamin', and in 1977, Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes, which included the breakthrough smash song "Margaritaville."
Buffett's tours produced significantly more money than his albums in the 1980s, and he became a popular concert draw. During the next 20 years, he created a string of CDs, largely for his adoring fans, but he also dabbled in writing and merchandising. Buffett first opened a "Margaritaville" retail store in Key West in 1985, followed by the Margaritaville Cafe in 1987.
