Cheers was one of the most well-known television programs in history throughout its existence, and it was praised by critics from the beginning to the conclusion. The 1987 original airings of "Thanksgiving Orphans" and "Home Is the Sailor" were voted No. 7 and No. 45 in TV Guide's list of the 100 greatest episodes of all time, respectively, in 1997. An estimated 93 million people, or over 40% of the US population at the time, watched the series finale. Cheers was placed 18th on TV Guide's list of the 50 greatest TV shows of all time in 2002. In 2013, TV Guide named it No. 11 on their list of the 60 best programs, while the Writers Guild of America selected it as the eighth best-written TV series.
