Thud.
That small sound. That beat of a moment. It made my own heart skip a beat, which it hasn't done in a very long time.
Thud. Thud.
It's not my heart alone thats beating. It's not just beating, its warming. Like it's coming alive. Is that possible?
My eyes stare at the sleeping angel who laid in front of me. Her eyes closed and swollen lips slightly parted. Cheeks a light dusting of red.
A thud in her chest making my brows furrow. Why? Because this woman has no heart. Yet here I was, hearing her heart.
Could she feel it? What did it mean? Why was mine beating insync to hers?
My eyes found Kai's behind her. He was staring at me already, his expression just as confused. Focusing closer, I could hear his heart beating as well.
We're dead. Our hearts aren't supposed to beat like this. It's not normal. It didn't make sense.
The low vibration of my phone ringing made me move quickly and carefully out of bed to hush it. Pressing my hand to it before rushing out of the room to speak.
"You've reached the City Morgue, who do you need six feet under?" I answered. The irritated sigh on the other end told me who it was. "Elijah, how can I assist you, Brother?"
"What's going on with Eve?" His words made me confused. Why would he ask that? What did he know? "Somethings changing, Kol. I know you feel it. What is happening?" The thudding.. the warmth. Was he experiencing it too?
"I think...." I let out a slight laugh at my theory, shaking my head. "It's going to sound crazy."
"My heart is beating, Kol. Crazy is the least of my worries." He sighed. I could only imagine he was pinching the bridge of his nose right now.
"Eve's heart started to beat." I told him. Fast and easy. No beating around the bush for that.
"She has no heart though.." His tone nearly sounded questioning. Like he was questioning his own logic.
"Well, something is beating in her chest and I don't think it's a rave." I joked.
"Tell me what happened before." He urged. His need to know everything was sometimes annoying. But I knew how to shut him down.
"Everything? Well, Kai and I- thats Eve's new guy friend from the prison world BTW, thats by the way- we sandwiched our little Evie in between us and-"
"That's enough, Kol." The irritation in my brothers tone was the best reward. A grin on my lips as I let out a laugh.
"You asked. I only obliged." I shrugged, moving to look around the house we were in.
Only a guy lived here and he was currently drained of blood on the nice purple sofa. Purple. Who buys an eggplant colored sofa? What man does? I shoved him off the sofa and sat down, testing the comfiness of it.
"So, you had an orgy and her heart began to beat?" Elijah sounded like he had trouble spitting that one out. And by the sound of the background, someone was congratulating me.
"Is that Katherine?? Did you get freaky in the sheets as well, brother?? How scandelous of you." I praised with a grin. "I'm shocked you haven't even asked what has become of our idiot brother. Does he not top your priorities anymore?" I heard Elijah sigh. He does that alot when talking to me anymore.
"Finn told me. He seemed to have deserved it. But I doubt that's the last we'll hear of him." Elijah told me. I hummed at him in return.
"How is Finny? Last I saw, he was getting cozy with that blonde vampire Klaus liked so much. Caroline is it?"
"I don't worry myself with our siblings relationships. Neither should you." He scolded me. "Finn actually called before I called you. Ms. Forbes and his heart are both beating as well."
"AH-HA! So he is with Caroline! I thought his magic seemed to reach for her." I mentally highfived myself for the theory being right. "So vampires in Mystic Falls are becoming more human? What do you think this means?"
"I have no clue. But I'm sure you have some theories you wish to share." Do I really irritate my brother that much? He always sounds strained talking to me. Like it's killing his brain cells.
"I have some. But it's still early in the game. We'll have to see if they are what they are."
"Kol?" My eyes snap up to see Eve standing at the doorway. Naked. Blood dripping down her chin.
"And with that I gotta go. Later brother." I hung up before Elijah could say more. Eve making her way towards me with a wicked grin on her face before wrapping her legs on either side of me. "Sleep well, darlin'?" I questioned as she wrapped her arms around my neck.
"Better if you were there with us." She mumbled, her face leaning into my neck. The small prickle of her fangs making me groan before I felt her tongue dart out to taste my blood. "Somethings changing, Kol."
"I know, love. We'll figure it out." I hummed as I moved my head to the side to give her better access. Her fangs sank into my skin. This was the first time she bit me. Our blood sharing.
Thud. Thud.
My ears rang as I listened to the sound of Eve's supposed heart beat. A groan muffled against my neck as I pushed my magic out around her. Watching as Kai appeared in the doorway, watching us. Then Eve slid me into her. A moan of satisfaction coming from both of us.
"Ride me, darlin'." I encouraged. My hands on her hips as she grind hers into mine. Pushing me completely into her. My eyes on Kai as his eyes darkened. This is what we were now, wasn't it?
I could live with this.
