Some people who worked with Dr. Owens showed up at the Byers Household to explain what was going on. Apparently there was major trouble in Hawkins.
"I'm sorry, I'm having trouble following. What exactly is going on in Hawkins? What's causing the killings?" Jonathan snapped.
"That's what we're trying to ascertain." The woman told them.
Mike scowled. "Where is El? Like right now?"
"For your safety it's best that you don't know."
Oscar's eye twitched. "So this training, for El's powers, exactly how long is that going to take?"
"It could take weeks, months-"
"MONTHS!?" Will gasped.
"Until then, agents Harmon and Wallace will stay with you." She added.
Mike did a double take. "Hold on- we're not the ones in danger! Our friends are in Hawkins, our FAMILY is in Hawkins!"
"I'll work to contain the situation until Eleven is ready." She insisted. "Until then it's very important you don't mention a word about this to anyone."
"This is crazy." Oscar shook his head, getting up so he could pace around.
"Look, there is people right now, who are searching for Eleven. We cannot risk her safety." She told them firmly. "We risk her, we risk your friends and the entire world."
Nobody seemed very convinced.
"Eleven trusted us, now we're asking the same from you." She told them before taking out an envelope. "For you." She handed it to Mike.
He snatched it from her and stormed off.

The next day was depressing, the agents were just sitting around using the tv, leaving everyone to their own devices as long as they stayed inside.
And Oscar was fairly certain he was losing his mind.
His brain kept drifting back and forth between images of smoking and images of stabbing Mike over and over and taking back his cigarettes.
When he finally couldn't take it anymore, he barged into Will's room to see him and Mike talking.
"Mike, can I speak to you?" He asked shortly. "In private?"
Will gave him a look of pure irritation and stormed off, slamming the door behind him.
"I need my cigarettes back." Oscar told him quickly.
"Seriously?" Mike questioned in disbelief.
Oscar stared him down.
Mike shook his head. "Fine, take them." He practically threw them and the lighter at Oscar's face, but he didn't care and lit one immediately.
The relief that filled his being with that first puff was incredible, his legs turned to jelly.
"I can't believe this. El's off...training, we're stuck here, and the last words she and I exchanged were just a fight." Mike spoke bitterly.
Oscar sat down on the floor against the wall, hugging a knee. "Yeah well, not like Will and I are doing too great. I totally snapped, multiple times."
"Man..." Mike shook his head in exasperation. "What is wrong with us?"
"What do you think?" Oscar chuckled, taking a drag. "Mike we've been through hell and back, it's a miracle we're as sane as we are."
Mike frowned. "No that's...that's not what I mean. El wanted me...to tell her I love her and I just...I didn't."
