Oscar was collapsed on the couch in the basement, while Mike was pacing around.
"What's got you all pissed?" Mike questioned curiously.
"You wouldn't understand." Oscar sighed.
"MIKE, PHONE!" Karen called.
Mike huffed. "OKAY!" He hesitantly picked up. "Hello? S-Sorry I was just about to call."
Oscar looked at him curiously, eyebrows furrowed.
"I um...can't see you today. It's my nana, she's very sick." Mike added.
Oscar's eyes widened.
"Yeah, that's what...we thought at first but then she took a real turn for the worse. We think she might...die."
"What is wrong with you?" Oscar hissed quietly as Mike winced. Then Mike's eyes widened.
He scowled at the stairway. "MOM GET OFF THE PHONE! HOW MANY TIMES!?"
"DID NANA CALL!?" Their mom shouted.
"NO MOM, JUST GET OFF THE PHONE!" Mike hissed.
Taking a moment to calm himself, Mike spoke into the phone. "Sorry about that. Yeah, she's so upset she's making no sense. Because we have to go to the nursing home, to see nana. No! I just think...I need to be with Scar today, alone. We uh, really need each other right now."
Oscar's eyes widened as his jaw dropped.
"What? No! Friends don't lie!" Mike protested into the phone, clearly El was doubting his story. "Uh, gotta go, my mom's calling me, miss you already, bye!" He hung up.
"You're a dead man." Oscar told him.
Mike groaned. "Scar, please don't tell her! And please don't go out without me today! If she finds out I lied to her...I really am dead."
"You should be dead!" Oscar snapped. "Forget it Mike, there's no way I'm-"
The phone rang and Mike reluctantly answered. "Hello? Oh yeah he's-"
Oscar's eyes widened and he waved his hands wildly, shaking his head.
Mike froze and swiftly shifted gears. "Not here right now. No really, he uh, he went out this morning. Yeah, I'll tell him you called Will, bye." He hung up and stared at Oscar.
"...Fuck." Oscar muttered. "Sorry Mike, my life depends on me being anywhere but home." He hurried to get out of the house.
"You're the worst!" Mike called after him, but only with slight heat.
~~~
Oscar knew this was a bad idea. He just knew in his soul.
But he didn't know who else to go to. Nancy's been so busy at her new job, and there was no way in hell he was speaking to his mother.
So, he knocked on Max's door. She answered and looked at him with wide eyes.
"I need a girl's opinion." He huffed.
"Oscar?" A familiar voice hissed from behind Max.
Oscar died a little inside as he saw a very angry El staring at him.
"Look, before you kill me, you should know that I think it was shit that Mike lied to you and I'm already having problems with Will so I-I'm suffering already so uh, please don't send me flying." He pleaded awkwardly.
Max glanced back at El. "What do you think, El?"
El frowned, looking at him for a moment. "Boyfriend problems?"
