"What was Will saying?" They were back down in the basement. El was collapsed on the couch. "Like home...and empty." Mike frowned, thinking over Will's words.
Oscar chimed in. "And cold, he said cold as well."
"Like home...like his house?" Mike guessed.
"Or Hawkins?" Lucas suggested.
"Upside...down..." El muttered, getting their attention.
Oscar frowned. "Upside down?"
Mike's eyes widened. "Upside down." He hurried over to the table and flipped the game board over, making the others hurry over. "Remember? El flipped the board over to show us where Will was, and she took us to his house."
"But he wasn't there." Lucas insisted.
Oscar froze. "What if...What if he was? What if we just couldn't see him?" Dustin and Lucas looked at him with confusion.
"In English?" Lucas deadpanned.
Oscar clicked his tongue in thought, then snapped his fingers. "Like the Vale of Shadows." Their eyes widened.
Dustin grabbed Mike's DnD stuff and handed it to Oscar, who found the right page. "The Vale of Shadows is a dimension that is a reflection or echo of our world, it's a place of decay and death. A plane out of phase, a place of monsters...it's right next to you, and you don't even see it." Everyone looked at him with shock and horror.
"An alternate dimension..." Mike breathed.
"But how do we get there?" Lucas asked.
Oscar bit his lip, and went over El, kneeling down to face her. "Do you know? Do you know how to get there? To the Upside Down?"
She weakly shook her head.

"IT'S NOT FAIR!"
"OLIVIA!"
Oscar's dad shouted at him as he stormed out of his room.
It was the day of the funeral, and Oscar found himself holding a stupid, ugly, disgusting black dress.
His parents were making him play dress up for a damn funeral, a funeral they shouldn't even be having because Will's still alive.
"I'm not wearing a damn dress; YOU CAN'T MAKE ME!" Oscar shouted as he stormed into the bathroom.
"OLIVE, GET BACK HERE! OLIVE!" He slammed the door shut and locked it, throwing the dress in the bathtub angrily.
Oscar gripped the sink in frustration as he looked in the mirror. His mom and dad had sat him down this morning and told him he was going to have to look more feminine for the funeral, which included makeup, curling his hair, and the worst of all; the dress.
It's just not fair. Mike gets to wear a nice suit, they're twins, they practically look the same, so what difference does it make if Oscar's in a dress?
Why couldn't they understand? Why couldn't they understand that wearing a dress, and makeup and acting like a girl made Oscar feel like he wasn't even a person?
A gentle knock on the door made Oscar snap out of his thoughts. He looked over at the door with tears bubbled in his eyes.
"Scar? It's me..." Mike's muffled voice spoke. "No stupid parents or annoying sisters."
Wiping at his eyes, Oscar unlocked the door and allowed Mike to enter before locking it again. "Scar-"
"I'm not doing it. I'm not wearing a dress to Will's funeral, mom and dad can punish me after." Oscar snapped.
