"Olive? Sweetie? Open the door." Karen's voice spoke from outside.
Oscar was curled up on the top bunk, tears running down his cheeks as he stared at the bracelet in his hands.
How could things turn out like this? One of his best friends was dead, and now his other half wanted nothing to do with him.
"Honey please...please let me in." Karen knocked again.
Oscar ignored her, choosing instead to keep fiddling with the bracelet.
He heard her sigh.
"...Oscar, please open the door so I can talk to you, I won't be long." He choked out a gasp.
Hesitantly, Oscar wiped at his eyes as sat up, sliding off the top bunk and landing on his feet. Reluctantly he unlocked the door and allowed his mom to enter.
"Oh honey..." She hugged him when she saw him crying. He hiccupped and hugged her back tightly. "Listen, I'm not here to try and make you talk if you're not ready...so just listen, okay?"
She led him to the bottom bunk and they sat down.
Karen took a deep breath. "Oscar, your brother really needs you right now, and you need him. I think you should try to talk to him again."
"But he's the one who told me to go away!" Oscar sniffed. "In the Party, the rule is whoever pushes further has to apologize, this is on him."
"Maybe it is, but sometimes...sometimes people need to swallow their pride to protect people important to them. Do you really want to keep fighting with Mike just so you can be right?" She asked gently.
Oscar looked down, crossing his arms stubbornly. "It's not fair...why don't you go give Mike this talk?"
She chuckled. "Because Mike's as stubborn as your father and won't listen. You've...always been a gentler soul than your siblings."
"I hate fighting with Mike..." He sulked. "We've always gotten along so well...he was there for me so many times..."
Karen nodded. "So, isn't it time you return the favor?"
Oscar thought for a moment and sighed heavily. "Yeah okay..."
"That's my boy." She smiled softly.
Tears welled up in Oscar's eyes, and he hugged her tightly. She hugged him back and rubbed his back comfortingly.

Oscar hurried down to the basement to find Mike and El messing with the walkie talkie. "Mike I-"
But he froze when he heard a familiar voice singing.
"Should I stay or should I go now?"
"...No way..." Oscar breathed.
Mike tried to speak into the walkie, but it lost signal. "Was that?..."
"Will." El told him, blood running from her nose.
~~~
Mike and Oscar were lying in their beds, pretending to be ill so they could stay home.
Karen bought it easily, probably thinking they were distraught from Will being dead. She said goodbye and they jumped out of their beds.
"Okay, we need to make this fast because we need to get down to business." Oscar told him.
"Right, right, I was a jerk, I'm sorry." Mike told him quickly.
Oscar grinned. "The biggest jerk, but I'm sorry too, sometimes even twins need space and I should respect that."
