Engfa's POV

Seeing Char in this state makes me want to protect her from Win. I hope she doesn't dwell on the past and becomes distressed about what happened to her when she wakes up. It might take a while for her to recover physically and mentally, but I hope she knows I will be there by her side whenever she needs me.

Inside the hospital room, I noticed that I was the only one beside her, and that part broke my heart because no one was available to take care of her. Now that Win isn't going anywhere around her, I am concerned about her mentality.

"Please be strong, Char..." I held her hand to encourage her even though she was still unconscious. As I caressed her hand, I could tell she was trying to fight back against Win, considering her knuckles were all bruised.

 ...

The next day, I requested a week off from work to take good care of Char. I prayed for her fast recovery before going out of the room. As I walked away, something held me back from going out. Her firm grasp on my hand tells me she's awake. Instantly, I rang the bell so the doctor could reexamine her progress.

She became responsive faster than everyone expected, confirming that she could fight through this upsetting experience. Even so, watching her space out makes me unhappy, as if she was not there with me.

Once the doctor left the room, I thought about what to say to her. Do I bring up what happened or what?

However, for some reason, I refuse to make her run through the horrendous event and let her rest for a while. I wanted to talk to her, but I refused to say something because I feared she would lose the motivation to open up to me like she used to. So, I sit on the chair next to her bed.

Then, she started to talk and said, "Why are you silent today? I am awake..." She tried to lighten the mood.

"You know that if I don't arrive on time, I could lose you forever, right?" I regretted my slow reaction.

"Hey, don't blame yourself...I am just unlucky to have him as my boyfriend..." She told me that, but her mood went down from then on.

"Are you okay now?" I asked her, but she half-heartedly said she would be okay. At that point, I knew she didn't want me to pursue any longer about what happened to her.

"Do you have your phone with you? I need to call someone..." Char abruptly asked for a phone, but her looks gave me some longing, like she was guilty. Is something wrong?

When she called someone, I excused myself so she could talk freely. I wondered who she called. After 10 minutes, I went back inside, and the first thing she said was to tell me to rest at home.

"But, who's going to take care of you?" I worried, but she told me the nurse would be there if she needed anything. I admit I was a little hurt when she didn't need my accompany when I was her best friend. Anyway, I respected her request and went home unreluctantly, but I will visit her again tomorrow.

...

The next morning, I went to her room, and the bed looked surprisingly clean and smart. "Wait...where is she?" I questioned myself.

Then, a nurse interrupted my thought and asked if I needed any help. So, I asked where the patient went.

"Oh... she was already discharged from the hospital early this morning." The nurse stated.

I was taken aback by the revelation and asked the nurse another question, "Do you know who she is with?"

"She was taken by a girl who looked similar to her age, I think," She said.

Why didn't she tell me she was going to discharge? I drove away to her house because that was the only place I could think of, but it was empty. I wanted to call her, but her phone was damaged.

She was gone.
