Engfa's POV

In my mind, I thought it was going to be a quick 5-minute drive, but now it has become a 50-minute drive because the girl who sits next to me just lies about where she lives. With my hands clenched onto the steering wheel, I tried not to lose control from scolding this girl, especially after what happened tonight.

Since I had to endure with this stranger for 50 minutes, I turned on the radio to listen to Taylor Swift's song. Shortly after that, the girl shut down the radio, and that's when I reached my limit.

"What the hell are you doing?!" I was baffled at her action.

"I don't want to listen to any music right now...my head gets dizzy...feel like-" At that moment, I knew what she was about to do in my car, so I stopped near the curb, and she immediately went out and throw up on the grass.

Now, I feel shameful for making her puke, and I know I am partly the reason because I might have intentionally sped up my car to 160 mph to shorten the 50-minute drive. To make it up to her, I assisted her in easing her nausea.

I rubbed her back so she could get rid of the alcohol in her system. Then, five minutes later, she sat on the curb to have a break from the constant puking. To not make her feel lonely, I sat next to her and started apologizing to her right away for driving recklessly.

"I am sorry for driving so fast..." I asked for her forgiveness, and when she didn't reply to my apology, I was about to say something. "I am-" I was stunned when the girl's head rested on my shoulder, restricting me from moving just so as not to interrupt her rest time.

Again, because I was worried about her, I kept asking if she was alright, but she only silenced herself. Just like that, we spend half an hour on the curbsides until we are ready to go.

"By the way, I didn't get your name...my name is Engfa. What's yours?" I tried to be friends with her.

After a few seconds, the girl decided to talk and said, "It's Charlotte." I began to jot down her name mentally, so I don't forget. I really want to know about what happened in the toilet just now, but I am afraid she will ignore my question.

Thus, I asked something irrelevant to warm up the conversation and added, "So..you're not a drinker, are you?"

"No," Charlotte gave me a single answer. From then on, I didn't know how to continue from there, but I guess she read my mind when she asked, "If you really want to know about the bruises I had earlier, it's not because of someone. I just fell on the stairs before this."

Despite her statement saying that she fell doesn't sit right with me, particularly when the bruises I saw looked like someone punched her in the face, and the bruise areas are not where you normally get bruises easily.

"Hey...you can tell me if someone is bothering or hurting you... I am willing to help. In fact, I worked in a criminal investigation unit, and we got a lot of abusive cases." I reassured her that she could rely on me.

However, she was adamant in her statement that I read her boyfriend wrong when she described him as being protective.

Author's note:

I don't even know why I decided to let Engfa's character become a police officer in this story. But oh well, let's just go with the flow😅🤣 Also, another song to describe Chapter 4 👇
