Heidi's POV
"I completely understand your reason. But, please think about your happiness too. Are you sure you can normally live without her in your life?" I tried to change her thinking.
Looking at her face, I could tell she hesitated to leave, but her pride won't help her change her mind.
Right then, I knew she had already set her mind, and I could've let her go. But, when her face looked distressed and sad, I didn't think her relationship with Engfa was just a normal affection between two friends.
Besides, if it's just a simple fling, I knew the feelings would be intense and isn't last forever. But this is different, and I refused to admit that my gaydar is wrong cause they never were.
So, before she went, I stealthily borrowed her phone and got Engfa's phone number because I could tell, based on her personality for not wanting to burden others, that she didn't tell her about her leaving.
Even though I sent her until the departure gate, she still wouldn't turn her back and proceed to get through the security screening. This is bad... and I need to inform Engfa immediately about Char's departure before it's too late.
Dialling the number I got from Char's phone, I called Engfa, and she answered my call with a muffled voice, "Hello, who is this?"
"Emm, hello...this is Heidi, Char's friend...Can you go to the airport and stop Char from leaving?" I asked her a favour.
After Engfa listened to my distress, she was scared to hear that Char was going somewhere, "Where is she going? Is she on holiday?" She tried to calm herself.
"No...you don't understand, don't you? She is leaving for good this time...you will not see her again because she thinks you didn't love her. I knew she was wrong, right? You love her..." I made my statement about Engfa's feelings towards Char to make her go to the airport.
But I didn't expect to hear when she revealed her sincerity for not wanting Char to be gone from her life, " Are you sure she's not coming back here? Where are you? I can't lose her again...please help me stop her..." The table turned she begged me to intercept Char from going.
...
After the conversation with Fa, she sounded weak, as though Char was not the only one suffering from rejection.
Putting aside my intrusive thoughts, I tried to walk past the gate, where Char was resting before she went onto her plane. But to my dismay, I get stopped by the strict security, making it hard for me to reach for Char.
I tried to call her phone, but she didn't answer hers. I don't know what to do next, and it',s almost time for Char's departure. Yet, Engfa is nowhere to be found.
Maybe my intuition was wrong... Just when I was about to leave from here, I felt someone breathing heavily behind my back, and when I turned, I spotted Engfa looking worn out.
Then, her eyes met mine and went in my direction, "Where is she?" Not only does she look dead tired because of her notice eye bags, but she also sweats a lot, as if she's running a marathon to go here.
"I am sorry, Engfa. I've tried my best to stop her, but I don't have the power to go further-" She interrupted me.
"I have my police badge. The security might make an exception for me." She then went to the front gate and showed her badge to the officer.
A few minutes later, she made her way to me because she got denied. Apparently, the security told her that she was not on official active duty and had no right to pass through the checkpoint.
When she sat down after trying her shot to prevent Char from going, she finally let herself feel and cried her heart out.
Out of sympathy, I began to pat her on the back to calm her sadness, but it didn't work. She pours out her tears, making me realise that I was right that Engfa also has genuine feelings for Char.
...
I've been soothing Engfa until she's okay to leave the airport, but she looked vulnerable even to walk. "Do you want me to send you home?" I took responsibility since I was the one who invited her here.
However, she silently walked away from me without saying anything. I guess she still has difficulty processing everything, so I decided to give her some space.
As I followed Engfa from the back, I noticed she was walking slowly when she suddenly fell over, losing consciousness. "Engfa!!" I ran over to her side in shock.
Author's note:
What is going on with Engfa?😢😢
On a side note, I liked this song, and I am trying to have some inspiration from it for the next few chapters.
