I didn't know that my heart could feel so empty and full at the same time, I was finally getting my family back. After years of heartache and isolation, my grandmother was giving me a chance to prove myself. And none of this would have been possible without Lucas. But now I'm filled with this immense amount of terror, that I'll lose everything before I've even got it back.
I warily eye up Scarlett as she continues to sob, she hasn't stopped crying since I told her about my secret Santa gift.
'Are you okay?'
She sniffles, 'I-I think so.'
'You do realise, that we've literally got a Christmas Eve party to go to in twenty minutes.'
'I-I know that's why I wore waterproof mascara.'
I raise an eyebrow, 'How did you know that you were going to cry?'
She gives me a look, 'Who do you think printed out the certificate?'
'Wait, so you knew this whole time, but you are still crying?'
The pink haired girl nods, 'Y-Yeah, I'm just a really emotional person. I cry at commercials all the time especially if there's a dog in it.'
'To be fair dogs make me cry too.'
I wince as I examine myself in the mirror, I couldn't help but feel self-conscious, I wanted to fit in the holiday theme, and so I was wearing a red corset top with baggy mom jeans. I was extremely out of my comfort-zone, but I just wanted to look different, prettier.
And I couldn't exactly pin-point why.
'Autie, you look beautiful. Turn that frown upside down.'
'I-I don't feel it.'
A small knock echos through Scarlett's bedroom before the door swings open, my stomach churns when I see Lucas looking undeniably handsome. He was wearing a dark-green baggy t-shirt with black jeans along with his usual jewellery and a mustard-coloured cap.
Fuck, he even looks good in a hat.
This is so unfair.
My cheeks burn as his eyes scan my body up and down, a grin slowly tugs on the side of his lips.
'Love, you look...incredible.' He breaths out as he takes a step-closer towards me.
'T-Thank you, so do you!'
Scarlett coughs loudly, 'Is no-one going to compliment me?'
'You look very pretty, Scar.'
'I know, I just wanted someone else to say it.'
I roll my eyes as I grab my bag and follow the two sibling's downstairs, Lucas unlocks his car indicating for us all the climb inside.
'I'm not drinking tonight, if my grandma even gets a whiff of alcohol on my breath, I'll no longer be able to see Winter.'
'Don't worry, Autie. I won't even let you near a drop.'
'I can't drink anyway, I'm driving, and I need to stay sharp for my match next week.'
'Now I have two people to look after me!'
I give her a look, 'Who said I would look after you?'
She pouts, 'Y-You have too, it's in the unofficial best friend handbook.'
I shrug, 'Well it's unofficial, so.'
'You are so mean to me.'
'I bought you ice-cream the other day.'
