The car ride was extremely painful, his radio decided to conk out on his, so we were sat in complete silence, and it wasn't the comfortable kind either. I drum my fingers against the leather seat.

'Can you stop that? It's really annoying.'

I purse my lips, 'I was going to stop, but now that I know you don't like it. I'm going to carry on.'

'Bitch.'

'Dick.'

He rolls his eyes as his hands tighten on the wheel slightly, I notice his entire demeanour start to change, his posture was more stiff, rigid.

'She's going to be okay.' I say softly, 'I know, how scary this must be. I have a little sister; I never really see anymore. But if I thought something had happened to her, I would go out of my freaking mind.'

'Wow, the ice queen can actually feel something?'

I shrug, 'Not all the time, only occasionally.'

A ghost of a smile tugs on his lips and because of this one of my own works its way onto mine before I quickly shake it away. There was no way in hell, I was going to let Lucas be the reason for my smile.

'It's nice of you to come. Scarlett doesn't really have many friends.'

'Me either, but she's nice.'

'I know, I was pretty pissed that she started being nice towards you.'

I frown, 'W-What?'

'You know because you and your old friends, used to bully the shit out of her.'

I wince as I look down at my lap, 'Y-Yeah, not my proudest of moments.'

'I'm just trying to figure out if you've actually changed, or if you are just waiting for your old friends to take you back.'

I blink as I let out a shaky breath, I have changed, I don't know if it was for the better because I don't suddenly think I was some kind person, because I'm not and I never will be.

'I-I would never go back to them, even if they paid me.'

'Good.'

'Good?'

He nods slowly, 'Yeah, Scarlett would be heartbroken if you fucked her off for them.'

Did Scarlett really class me as a friend? As in an actual friend? Because I don't think that feeling is reciprocated, I'm literally only here because I want to make sure she is safe.

I didn't have it in me to do the whole friendship thing anymore.

My eyes widen as he pulls up on the side of the street, my gaze turns to the house that is blasting music, with numerous drunk people passed out, outside of it.

I gulp slightly as my palms begin to sweat, my heart rate skyrocketing at an alarm rate. I really didn't want to do this, everything about this situation was making me feel unwell.

'You don't have to come inside with me, if you don't want?'

I shake my head, I open my mouth before closing, 'I-I want too.'

'You don't look like you do.'

I fidget with the sleeve of my coat, 'I-I do, I just can't be bothered with pervy frat boys.'

Lucas shakes his head, 'Look, I have a sister. I'm not going to tolerate any guys being dicks, even if it's to you.'

I scoff, 'Thanks, my hero.'

'I'm being serious, I wouldn't let anything happen to you.'

How could I trust him? I barely knew who he was? And the only times we speak, we just exchange heated words.

The moment before we walked into the detention room flashes into my head, he stopped himself from touching me because of how I reacted in the car.

I bite the inside of my cheek as I nod, 'I-I know.'

'Doesn't mean that I like you though.'

'Obviously not.'

We exchange a brief look before climbing out of the car, I edge closer towards Lucas as some drunk guy comes running down the street. My body tenses as we walk up to the stairs of the doorway leading to the house. I try to calm down the trembling but once again, it's useless, so I shove my hands into my pockets.

'Stay close.' Lucas murmurs as we walk inside.

The second we step into the party, my body is knocked by some tall asshole, his drink ends up spilling on me slightly. I grasp on to the back of Lucas' top to balance me, he turns around and looks at me with slight amusement.

'I hope your coat, isn't designer princess.'

I clench my jaw, 'Shut the fuck up.'

We scan the room, hoping to find a familiar flock of pink hair but instead all I can find is a sea of brunette and blonde hair. My hand begins to clutch his t-shirt again but even tighter then the last, when I notice a guy eyeing me up with a heated gaze, usually I'd be somewhat flattered. But the way he was looking at me was un-nerving, almost like I was his pray.

'You okay back there?'

I let out a shaky breath as the guy begins to walk towards us, 'I-I need you to act like my boyfriend.'

'What the fuck? No.'

'Please!' I plead, as the guy gets even closer, he doesn't stop until we are nearly inches away from each other.

I take a step-back, Lucas turns his head around before nodding, he moves his body until he is standing slightly in-front of me with his arms crossed.

'She's taken, fuck off.'

The guy blinks at the harshness in his voice before holding his hands up and running away. I snicker to myself, what a fucking coward.

'LUCAS! AUTUMN!' A familiar voice shrieks, I whip my head towards the owner of the voice, a stumbling Scarlett rushes towards us.

My eyes widen as I notice how dilated her pupils are. Jesus, what the fuck did she take? She looked completely out of it.

Lucas frowns as he gently grabs his sisters face, 'Scar, what the fucking are you on?'

She shrugs before laughing loudly, 'I-I don't know! I don't think I've been sober since Friday, I never thought it would be my thing, but Rick told me I should just try it! But I said no, and then he said he'd dump me! So, I did!'

The dark-haired boy's jaw clenches, 'H-He got you to do this?'

'Yeah, isn't he the best?'

I frown deeply at her behaviour, she was so high, I don't think she could really comprehend what was going on.

'I'm going to fucking, kill him.'

I reach out to stop him, I tense as my hand touches his arm, I quickly remove it, 'No, you aren't. Your sister needs you right now, so you are going to take her home. And you can deal with that asshole later.'

He sighs deeply as he rubs circles into his forehead, 'I hate to admit this, but you're right.'

'I'm always right.'

'Come on, Scar. We are going home.'

She shakes her head dramatically, 'N-No! I want to stay; these people are my friends!'

'No, they aren't. They wouldn't let you get like this, if they were your friends.'

Before she can argue back, Lucas grabs Scarlett and throws her over his shoulder, I wordlessly follow him out of the house, other than Scarlett's random rambling, we are in complete silence. I watch as he gently puts her in to the back of the car and puts her seatbelt around her. If he wasn't a complete dick, my heart might have warmed at the sentiment.

I get into the passenger's seat, 'I hope you kick her boyfriend's ass.'

He snorts, 'Don't worry, I will. Fuck, I really don't want to say this but thank you for coming...tonight.'

I shrug, 'She's a good person.'
