"Go back to surrounding it," Shiv commanded. "But Dejal is also right. We don't want to fight it. Push it towards the west. Don't stand in its way."
Dejal ran up to Shiv and asked why they couldn't do it the way he told them to.
"You've clearly not fought them before," Shiv said, only making Dejal hear him.
"I have!"
"Then you should know how dangerous that tail is," Shiv said and pointed at the tail swinging from side to side. "If they are all gathered in one spot the esyr will attack them but if they are spread around it, it doesn't know who and how to attack."
The beast hissed loudly as it started to face east while backing up. That was just what they wanted.
It was working. It was going west. Dejal had chosen west because that was the easiest way out of the camp for the huge creature. Any other way, there would be a tent, or other sorts of buildings or things they have made, in the way. The animal would break all they had if they didn't lead it out the right way. West was a nice accessible area.
"Do you often get attacked by them?" Dejal asked as the two high-ranked helped the students.
"For the past month, yeah," Shiv answered. "Before that, no."
"That's unusual."
"It is... and we've tried to figure out why. They have been a rare sight for years. Now they've started to come and go," Shiv said and then pointed at faraway mountains. "They come down from that mountain range. Something big would have changed if it had made these beasts run away."
"Do you know what it could be? Any ideas?"
"I'm not sure," Shiv said. "It can be many things. Maybe a natural disaster. Maybe one of the mountains is a volcano. Maybe there's no food up there anymore. Maybe some other animal has driven them away."
"Is there someone that is figuring it out?" Dejal asked. "Because this is a big problem. If they are in search of food, it would make sense that they come here and to the city."
"Yes, a few are trying to figure out the reason," Shiv said as they had almost shoved the big animal away. "We've noticed something alarming too."
"Yeah?"
"We only see the strongest. If you look closely enough, you can even see signs of a fight on this animal. This one was strong enough to survive," Shiv said and pointed. "I think they are being hunted."
Hunted? By whom? Or what? These are one of the strongest animals on their planet. In this area, it was an apex predator. It simply has no enemies.
"It's going for an attack! Watch the tail!" Dejal heard a voice shout. The animal turned around and swung the deadly tail.
There was not much special about the tail other than it was used as a whisk. It did have some small bumps on the tail though. The bumps were so small that they weren't of any help in a fight. The bumps were a little harder than the rest of the skin though. They would hurt more than if it didn't have them.
Some unlucky student became the target and was knocked to the ground by the powerful tail.
Dejal quickly noticed the line of the wound on the side of the student. He could easily have broken a rib from the impact of the tail.
