Chapter 31, Part 3

"Stop right there, Adler. We've got a bone to pick with ya!"

The man's words interrupted what was supposed to be a peaceful walk home. You huffed and turned around. You were met with two men, neither was particularly muscular, but tall and thin.
"You finally decided to stop hiding I see." You had felt their presence long before they'd decided to show themselves. They'd been following you all day. You hadn't exactly done much that could arouse their suspicion. You had played with a few children and visited the red-light district. Ok- there was one thing. You had intentionally broken into the police commissioners office and left a cheeky little message to get the polices attention. There was only one way to get into prison, after all. You refused posing as a cop, playing games was funnier.
"What are you waiting for? State your business, I'm not a very patient woman."

"Lord Dio has been raving about you, lately, yet he won't stop singing your praises. It irks me! How dare you bewitch him! Without your pacts you'd be nothing! I challenge you to a fight! You're undeserving of Lord Dio's love!", the taller of the two yelled.

"So, this is something personal. You wish to challenge me out of petty jealousy? How utterly stupid. First things first- who are you anyway? Did momma not teach you to mind your manners?", you retorted. If he wanted to make things personal, you wouldn't stop him. You wanted to have some fun anyway.

The man stopped short, then spoke, "I'm Nova Luas and that's my brother Nyx."
"Nyx? Nyx Lua?", you inquired and the smaller of the two nodded, "That's right."
Your eyes narrowed slightly, "Interesting."

This was in fact very convenient. How nice of him to come to you. You'd finally be able to cross off the last name of the list. When you sold your soul to Lord Kreitschmann you two had actually made another deal. These two events happened on the day you got permission to not only make a pact with Diavolo, who was still only the future king of hell at the time, but also received assurance of becoming the Devil's Bride and General of the Firewall. Lord Kreitschmann had made it very clear that it was him who opened up your path of power- and that it was him who could take it all away with just one word. You had expected this to come with a catch but if you were to be used as a tool, it would happen on your terms. And that's how you settled on that list. This sheer endless list contained names of all people who had a debt to pay. A debt to Lord Kreitschmann and you would act as the punisher to track them down and make sure they paid up. You were his Majesty's hunting hound. Many knew the title, but no one knew the face behind the name. None who had met the late emperor's hunting hound survived to tell the tale. And now, the owner of the very last name of that list had presented himself to you...

"Leave my brother out of this! Your fight is with me, I'm your opponent! Dio will finally look at me when I present him with your head!", exclaimed Nova angrily.
"How naïve. Dio is not the kind of guy to value his subjects. For him you're nothing but a disposable lacky- a tool. Sure, my head will bring you some recognition. But that will be fleeting. He'll throw you out after he's had his fun with you.", you stated emotionlessly.
"Quit lying!"
"You know I'm right. This world is a harsh one. Anyway, we'll see if you even have what it takes to defeat me cause I highly doubt it."
"Big words coming from someone who relies on magic and pacts to fight against a Stand. I bet your own Stand is super weak! So weak, you'd only embarrass yourself if you fought with it and everyone found out that the oh so great Kate Adler who is believed to be invincible actually has a useless Stand!", yelled Nova.
"Kate's Stand isn't-", protested Polnareff but Kate lifted a hand, shutting him off.
"Very well. If it's my Stand you want to fight, it's my Stand you get. Avdol, seal my magic and restrict the pacts and the demon in me."

||Avdol

Avdol feared that this would happen. Kate would be fighting with her Stand. The outcome would be disastrous. So far the world had been lucky that Kate was in no need to use Black Siren. Her Stand was far more powerful than the woman had let on. With Black Siren with Kate as the Stand's user, the term dangerous temptation and allure had gotten an entirely new meaning. Black Siren harboured a dark secret. Begrudgingly he did as Kate had asked and watched in fear as the glowing seal laced itself around her neck. Doom was upon them because no Stand was as sadistic as Black Siren.

After all powers that were unrelated to Black Siren had been sealed, Kate turned back to the enemy.
"So, who of you two wants to go first? Or maybe both at once? I don't care."
Nova stepped forward. "I'm your opponent. My brother only came as a witness. Someone needs to back up my story when I brag about defeating you."
"Very well.", Kate stated and summoned Black Siren. The pitch black Stand appeared next to her in a cloud of smoke accompanied by a hissing sound, the yellow eyes twinkling dangerously, narrowed to slits and a diabolic smile, demonstrating sharp teeth, turning the Stand's beautiful face into a devilish grimace that engraved fear into everyone who looked at it. Nova unconsciously backed up a bit. Black Siren chuckled an unexpectedly deep chuckle and smoke wafted out of her mouth, the smell of sulphur and smoke filling the air.
"Don't tell me you're backing out already.", taunted Kate.
Nova's eyes glinted: "Never. I will get Dio's attention. He has to give up on you and for that you have to die. I can't stop now."
"Futile, admirable, but futile. In the end it won't matter how much you loathe my very existence, how much you desire that filthy vampire-" Nova didn't let Kate finish: "Don't insult Lord Dio! He is a magnificent being! Strong and-"
