Life is normal. Well, as normal as it can be. Sophomore year is supposed to be boring and it is. If it weren't for my friends by my side, I probably would've dropped out last year. Nancy Wheeler and Barbra Holland were two girls no one would expect me to be friends with.

They're smart and respectful while I could care less about my grades. Nancy knew Barb before I did. They brought me into their friendship after I met Nancy. Our little brothers were best friends.

I remember the first time I met Nancy. She looked terrified of me. I suppose she would be because I wasn't exactly the nicest person around. After confirming that I'm not mean to people for no reason, we began to hang out.

Henceforth, creating a beautiful friendship.

I also have more friends, I'm not a total loner.

Would I consider Steve Harrington a friend? Maybe. I've known him since middle school. I remember during the middle school dance, he spilt red punch all over my white shoes. He apologized and promised to make it up to me with a milkshake.

And he did.

I got lost in his eyes that night...but that's another story.

After Nancy met Steve and his friends, she decided she wanted to be more on the wild side. Barb wasn't a fan of them, so she kept her distance.

It was Sunday night and I was patiently waiting for my little brother Dustin to return from the Wheeler household. As I mentioned before, he was best friends with Mike. Lucas and Will were also in their little friend group and they spent most of their time playing Dungeons & Dragons.

The front door opened and I looked away from the TV. Mews, our cat, lifted her head from my lap to see who woke her up from her nap.

"Tsk tsk, Little Brother." I taunted with a smile.

Dustin began to remove his shoes. "Sorry I'm late. Is Mom awake?"

"Nope, fell asleep an hour ago. I stayed up to make sure you got home. Did you eat?" I stood from the couch as Mews jumped from my lap and walked off to my room.

"Yeah, uh, thanks for waiting." He gave me his toothless smile.

"Yeah, yeah, now get some sleep. School tomorrow." I patted his head before turning off the TV and walking into my room.

My alarm blared hours later and I got ready for school. When I left my room with my school bag, I stopped in Dustin's room before shaking him awake.

"Get up. School." I nudged his shoulder.

"I'm up. I'm up!" Dustin shoved me away when I pushed him too hard.

I left his room and entered the kitchen as Mews followed.

"Good morning. I made you toast." Mom smiled at me before picking up Mews. "Good morning to you, too."

"Thanks, Mom." I picked up my toast, ready to take a bite.

A thump echoed and we turned to see Dustin on the ground after trying to put his shoes on.

"Really?" I raised my eyebrows.

"I gotta go!" Dustin jumped up, put on his backpack and stole my toast before running towards the door.

"Hey! Dustin!" I yelled, chasing after him.

"Love you guys, bye!" Dustin put the toast in his mouth and grabbed his bike before riding off.

I watched him from the doorway as Mom grabbed her keys and left the house.

"I gotta get to work, have fun at school. Love you." Mom kissed my cheek.
