Steve, Dustin and I drove in the silence of the night as we tried to process what my brother just told us.

Dustin found a slug on Halloween and it turned out to be a monster. To make matters worse, it's missing.

"Wait a sec. How big?" Steve questioned.

"First it was like that." Dustin showed the size between his fingers. "Now he's like this." He showed the creature's current size with his two hands.

"I knew...I knew something was wrong. Why didn't you tell me?" I questioned Dustin.

"I thought you would take away my scientific discovery!" Dustin defended.

"Really? Me...take away a scientific discovery?" I repeated slowly.

"I swear to God, man, it's just some little lizard, okay?" Steve rolled his eyes, not believing Dustin.

"It's not a lizard." Dustin denied.

"How do you know?" Steve asked.

"How do I know if it's not a lizard?" Dustin repeated.

"Yeah! How do you know it's not just a lizard!?" Steve raised his voice.

"Because his face opened up and he ate our cat." Dustin revealed.

I gasped. "Your slug ate Mews?"

"Yeah..." Dustin sighed.

"Oh, my God." I put my face in my hands. "Mom's looking for a dead cat."

We pulled up to our house and Steve opened his truck to reveal our bat. He tossed where our bat was. He tossed the keys to Dustin and pulled it out.

Dustin gave Steve a flashlight and led us to our cellar.

It was silent.

"I don't hear shit." Steve denied.

"He's in there." Dustin confirmed.

Steve tapped the bat on the metal door.

Nothing.

He banged it against the door.

Nothing.

Steve turned to Dustin and aimed the flashlight in his face. "Alright, listen, kid. I swear, if this is some sort of Halloween prank, you're dead."

"It's not." Dustin denied.

"Alright?" Steve made it clear.

"It's not a prank. Get it out of my face." Dustin closed his eyes.

"You got a key for this thing?" Steve looked between Dustin and I.

"You're going down there?" I questioned.

"You worried?" Steve smirked, clearly enjoying this.

"I hope it eats you." I replied with a hard face.

Steve's face dropped. "I was just kidding."

"Enough flirting, you're making me sick." Dustin pulled out the key.

"That's flirting? Oh, kid." Steve shook his head.

"It's clearly a hate-love banner." Dustin stated.

Steve unlocked the cellar and swung the doors open. Dustin aimed the flashlight down there, but we didn't see or hear anything.

"He must be further down there." Dustin realized. "Athena and I will stay up here in case he tries to escape."

Steve stared at Dustin in shock before sighing and glancing at me. "Kiss for good luck?"
