The five of us began our walk home.

"You're positive that was Dart?" Lucas asked Dustin.

"Yes. He had the same exact yellow pattern on his butt." Dustin nodded.

"He was tiny two days ago." Max added.

"Well, he molted three times already." Dustin said.

"Malted?" Steve questioned.

"Molted." Dustin corrected. "Shed his skin to make room for growth like hornworms."

"Is he gonna malt again? And if he does, then when?" I asked.

"It's gotta be soon." Dustin guessed. "When he does, he'll be fully grown or close to it...and so will his friends."

"Yeah...and he's gonna eat a lot more than just cats." Steve said, causing Lucas to stop Dustin.

"Wait, a cat?" Lucas asked with his hand on Dustin's chest. "Dart ate a cat?"

"No, what? No." Dustin quickly shook his head.

"What are you talking about? He ate Mews." Steve revealed, obviously not understanding Dustin was lying his way out of trouble.

"Steve!" Dustin yelled.

"Mews? Who's Mews?" Max questioned.

"Our cat." I answered.

"Athena!" Dustin scolded.

"I knew it! You kept him!" Lucas glared.

"No! No. No, I...he missed me. He wanted to come home." Dustin defended the creature.

"Bullshit!" Lucas cursed.

"I didn't know he was a Demogorgon!" Dustin whined.

"Oh, so now you admit it?" Lucas raised his eyebrows.

"Guys, who cares? We have to go." Max rolled her eyes.

"I care! You put the Party in jeopardy! You broke the rule of law!" Lucas accused.

"So did you!" Dustin pointed at Lucas.

"What?" Lucas questioned.

"You told a stranger the truth!" Dustin aimed his flashlight at Max's face.

"A stranger?" Max scoffed.

"You wanted to tell her, too!" Lucas argued.

Steve and I shared a look as we debated on breaking up the fight or just letting it play out.

"Yeah, but I didn't, Lucas, okay? I didn't tell her!" Dustin shook his head.

A screeching sound was heard in the distance and I glanced to the side. Steve followed my gaze as we tried to see what was out there.

"We both broke the rule of law, okay? We're even." Dustin continued.

Steve's hand continued holding mine as we stepped over towards the edge of the hill.

"No, no! We are not 'even'. Don't even try that. Your stupid pet could've ate us for dinner!" Lucas argued.

"That was not my fault!" Dustin shouted.

"Hey, guys?" Steve called.

"He wasn't gonna eat us." Dustin denied.

"Oh, so, he was just crawling to come say hello?" Lucas asked in disbelief.

"Guys!" I yelled and they all shut up.

Another screech echoed, which caused Steve and I to follow the sound.
