The whole Team had just wrapped up a difficult case and Adam suggested they all go to Molly's and get drinks to celebrate. Hailey, Jay, Adam, Kevin and Kim were all sat at a table and they had just all gotten their second drinks. The team had been talking about what they had been up to recently outside of work and just giving each other a general life update and they spoke about that for a while but now the conversation had changed and everyone was talking about fun times they had in their childhood. Kim spoke about a couple different holidays she went on, Adam spoke about some fun experiences he got to have, Kevin spoke about different holiday traditions his family had and funny moments that happened during them and Jay spoke about his brother Will and their close relationship. The whole time everyone was talking about these different things and reminiscing about the fun times they had as kids, Hailey just sat in silence and listened to what everyone was saying, trying really hard not to show the sadness she was feeling on the inside, she loved hearing about all the fun times her teammates had and she was so happy for them and she knows they probably all had difficult times too as life isn't always plain sailing but she felt sad because she didn't have any fun times in her childhood at all or at least not any she could remember as the bad made any ounce of good she may have experienced an absolute blur.
"Hey Hailey what about you, do you have any fun things you remember from your childhood?" Kevin asked her. She had zoned out at this point for a while and only snapped back into the present when Jay tapped her knee under the table. "Oh uh sorry what did you say?" She asked Kevin and he repeated the question. "I'm not sure I can't really think of any off the top of my head but if one comes to me I'll tell you all." She replied placing a small smile on her face. They all ended up smiling at her and not pressing her to say anything else. Everyone continued their conversation and Jay engaged every so often saying something but he was mainly looking at Hailey as he was worried about her as she wasn't really talking and she seemed distracted or like she was thinking about something. "Hey you okay Hails?" He leaned over and asked quietly in her ear not wanting to attract everyone's attention. She just turned around and gave him a reassuring nod and Jay didn't keep pushing her, he decided to just keep an eye on her as he knew if there was anything she wanted to tell him she would when she was ready.
Kim had started talking about her dad and how she was close with him and days out he took her on as a kid. Hailey sat and listened for a while feeling happy for Kim but something inside her made her want to cry, she excused herself from the table and went to the restroom. She stood with her hands placed on the sink and closed her eyes taking a deep breath, she really didn't want to cry right now but hearing everyone's different childhoods made her grieve for the happy childhood she never got to have. She took another massive deep breath before leaving the restroom and going back to the table. Once she got back the conversation had changed to work related chat and then after about 20 minutes everyone finished their drinks and got ready to leave. Jay and Hailey said their goodbyes to everyone then headed to Jays car. Hailey and Jay had been together for a few months now and had been staying at each others places, tonight they were staying at Jays.
