It was the middle of January. Chicago was currently the coldest it usually ever gets. A constant chill in the air, the streets covered in blankets of white fluffy snow and all the lakes and ponds frozen over. The intelligence units work didn't stop though, no matter the weather they had a city to keep safe and bad people to lock away. Hailey and Jay were currently chasing a suspect on foot and they had just gotten to a frozen lake, the suspect ran right onto the lake just wanting to get away from Jay and Hailey and both of them being desperate to catch the suspect ran straight onto it after him neither of them really having time to stop and think about the dangers that could come along with what they were doing.

Jay had gotten across the lake and Hailey was a few steps behind him. Jay went to continue chasing the suspect but stopped running after him when he heard a crack which was followed by the sound of a splash and a scream from Hailey. Jay turned around not even caring that the suspect was getting away he knew other officers were around the area to keep an eye out for the suspect anyway so someone was bound to find him. He ran straight over to the edge of the lake and saw Haileys head coming up and then being submerged under again. She was trying so hard to keep her head above the surface but the water was so cold that it made her body numb so she was finding it even harder to control her movements and use any of her strength, she was gasping for air every time her head emerged out of the water. "Hailey!" Jay screamed out in fear as he ran over to her. He got on his hands and knees and leaned down over the edge of the lake and placed his hands in the circle of water that Hailey was currently in. "Hailey, grab my arms I'm going to pull you out." He said his voice laced with panic. Hailey put her arms up, her head still getting put under the ice cold water. Jay grabbed her forearms with his hands and used all his strength to pull her up, once he got her body fully out of the water, he had to drag her onto the grass surrounding the lake since she had no strength to stand or move due to her body being fully numb and ice cold.

Hailey was currently laying on her back across the grass. Jay had just radioed for help and it was on the way. "Hailey do you think you can sit up for me so I can take your jacket off and give you mine?" He questioned unsure if she would be able to. She sat up and Jay removed her jacket from her body and placed it to the side out of their way, he then took off his own jacket and put in on Hailey, zipping it up and then pulling her into his arms so she was laying with her back against his chest. "Jay I'm so cold." Hailey cried out, her teeth chattering as she spoke. "I know Hails, help is on the way and you're going to be okay I'm going to make sure of it." He said holding her in his arms. Jay realised Hailey still had her gloves on her hands and they were now freezing cold which wouldn't be helping her warm up. He removed the gloves from her hands and took his gloves off placing her hands in them and then holding her now covered hands in his and giving them a squeeze. "I'm going to ask you some questions okay Hailey?" Jay said thinking if he kept talking to her and she was asked questions that she had to think about then her mind would focus on other things therefore she wouldn't be thinking about how cold she was or how cold the air around her was.

"What is one thing you couldn't live without and why?" Jay asked saying out loud the first question that came into his head. "I couldn't live without you and the reason why is because you make everything better. Even just the thought of not having you by my side so we can get through life together hurts me to think about." She said, Jay wasn't necessarily expecting that answer but he thought it was sweet. He lowered his head down and kissed Haileys forehead. "What is something you do that helps prepare you for the day?" He asked. Hailey knew her answer straight away and responded to him. "Drinking a cup of coffee in the morning. I love my coffee as you know and it helps give me an energy boost." She said Jay let out a small laugh at this which made Hailey smile as soon as Jay seen a smile form on Haileys lips he let out a sigh of relief, the fact she was able to respond clearly to questions and she was now showing different emotions on her face instead of just laying with her eyes closed was a really good sign. "If you could change one thing about the world what would it be?" Jay and Hailey spent a lot of time asking each other questions on a daily basis and then answering them and Jay always found Haileys answers interesting, he loved the way her mind worked. "There's so many things I can think of that I'd want to change I genuinely can't think of just one specific one." Hailey said and just as Jay was going to get her to elaborate and tell him all the things she was thinking about the ambulance came and so did Voight. The paramedics got Hailey and took her into the back of the ambulance to warm her up and get her to hospital, Jay was about to climb in the back to be beside Hailey but just before he did Voight got his attention "Jay i got here as quickly as i could the team got caught up with the case as the suspect you were both chasing was caught and is now in custody. How's Hailey doing? everyone's really worried about her" Voight asked Jay. "I'm glad he's been caught. From what I can see I think she's going to be okay but I'm no doctor, she's going to the hospital now and I'm going with her so I'll update you and the rest of the team when I have any other information about her." Jay said, Voight nodded and patted Jay's back in a comforting manner before walking away as he had to get back to work. Jay got into the ambulance, him and Hailey now both on route to the hospital.

I've just found this photo in my camera roll and I want to cry. I miss them so much, look at their smiles🥹
