I got the idea to do this one shot as it's my birthday today and I thought it would be nice to do one about it being Hailey's birthday and Jay making it special for her and showing her how important she is as I have a feeling when she was growing up she never got celebrated or never had many happy memories from her birthdays. Hailey was woken up by Jay placing kisses on her forehead, she stirred for a few seconds before she eventually opened her eyes and looked at Jay. "Good morning Hails, Happy birthday!" He said smiling at her. "Morning, thank you." She said smiling back at him then closing her eyes again for a minute as she was still tired. Hailey went and got ready for work while Jay made them coffee, he was already dressed and ready for work as he got up early so he could make Hailey breakfast before the two of them had to leave to go to the district. "What is all this?" Hailey questioned as she walked into the kitchen and saw a mug of coffee and a plate with pancakes topped with strawberry's and whipped cream on the table in front of her. "It's your birthday breakfast." Jay replied pulling out her chair for her then taking a seat in the chair opposite her. "Oh wow thank you, this looks so nice, it's certainly a big change from having a cereal bar while I'm rushing out the door." She said laughing before she began to eat the pancakes. "I hope you enjoy it especially since you don't need to rush to eat them." Jay began to eat his breakfast too, then after they were finished the two of them left their apartment and headed to the district so they could begin their work.
The whole day no one said anything to Hailey about her birthday as she didn't ever tell anyone when it was, the only other person apart from Jay that knew was Voight and that was because it was in Hailey's file so he said it to her quietly when he saw her at the start of the day, he had a feeling she didn't want everyone to know and she didn't want to put any attention on herself so he didn't make it a big deal. Hailey had never been a huge fan of her birthday just due to the fact that she didn't really have any happy memories from her birthdays or just any holidays in general so she always found things like her birthday, Christmas, Halloween and new year hard, once she and Jay moved in together and got married though she began celebrating holidays with him and had started finding the joy in them, Jay was always very understanding whenever things got too much for Hailey or if anything ever triggered her so that made Hailey feel more comfortable and okay with celebrating things.
It was now time for Hailey and Jay to go home, the whole team had been working on an armed robbery case the whole day and it was now 9:00pm. Jay and Hailey stopped off and got a Chinese takeaway from Haileys favourite takeaway restaurant then they drove home. As soon as they got home they put away their badges and guns then Jay dished up their food so they could sit and eat, they spoke about their days and how they felt after the case they dealt with today. After they finished eating Jay went and ran a bubble bath for Hailey, he washed her hair for her then they both got out and put their pyjamas on.
Jay had told Hailey to stay in their room as he had a surprise for her, after about five minutes he came through to their room and got Hailey to come into the living room. "Oh wow Jay what's all this?!" Hailey said as soon as she came into the living room and seen a birthday cake, card and a little pile of presents all laid out across the coffee table in the middle of their living room as well as a helium ballon that said happy birthday across it. "Just a little something I wanted to do for your birthday, I was thinking you could open your presents and card then we could do your cake but it's up to you." He said sitting down beside the coffee table and gesturing for Hailey to come sit down to. "I'm so grateful but you honestly didn't have to go to all this trouble for me." She said looking at Jay. "This isn't trouble at all, I wanted to do this for you, I know how you feel about birthdays but you deserve to be celebrated and feel loved Hails." He reached over and squeezed her hand then picked up her card and handed it to her in an attempt to encourage her to open it and she did then she opened her gifts from him. "Thank you so much Jay, you make me feel so loved." She leaned over and hugged him. "You're welcome and you are loved Hailey, you're loved so much." He hugged her back and they ended up staying in each other's embraces for a few minutes just taking in each others presence and warmth.
"Why don't we do your cake!" Jay said. Hailey pulled back from their hug and Jay got a lighter to light the candles on her cake, Jay had bought Hailey a vanilla flavoured cake with vanilla buttercream covering it and edible flowers going all around the top of it. He sang happy birthday to her which made her laugh since he was singing by himself which sounded really funny, she made a wish and blew out her candles then they both ate a piece of cake. "What do you think of the cake?" Jay asked her, taking a bite of the cake. "I really like it, you picked a good one." She said before she continued eating. After they finished their slices of cake they both went and brushed their teeth then got into bed. Jay put on Haileys favourite movie and once she got into bed she laid her head on Jays chest and cuddled into him. "Thank you for today, you make birthdays happy and I have began to not hate them as much as I use to, I love you." She said looking up at him. "I enjoy celebrating you Hailey, I feel lucky to have you in my life and I'm so glad you don't hate your birthday as much now, it's meant to be a happy day so I'll always do what I can to make it happy, I love you so much." He leaned his head down and placed lots of little kisses to her forehead. They spent the rest of the night watching the movie they had put on then they fell asleep.
