Hailey and Kim were currently in the car driving to a call that had just came through on their radios, there was a robbery currently in progress at a bank and they were only a few blocks away from it so they decided to take it as they could get there the quickest due to them being the closest officers to it. Once they arrived at the scene they both got out the car and approached the bank, the windows had been smashed and there was two bodies inside that were laying on the floor. Hailey saw a man in a black tracksuit run past one of the doors near the back of the bank so she ran inside the building and chased after him, she slipped and ended up getting glass in the palms of her hands and her knees so she told Kim to go after him, as Kim was chasing after the man Hailey ignored the pain she was feeling and crawled over to the bodies laying on the floor but both of them had been shot and it was too late as neither of them were breathing, Kim returned since the suspect had gotten away but she told Hailey she had managed to get the colour and plate of the getaway vehicle which was at least something. Hailey called in the two bodies and told them to roll the crime lab. Kim helped Hailey up and helped her walk outside the building as she was limping due to the pain in both of her knees, she had began removing shards of glass from her hands when Voight and Adam arrived at the scene. Voight saw the state Hailey was in and told Kim to drive her back to the district so she could clean up.

Once they both got back to the district, Hailey went straight upstairs and the first face she saw as she walked into the bullpen was Jays, he was sat at his desk going through documents on his computer. "Oh Hails what happened?!" Jay asked shocked as soon as he saw Hailey, he got up from his seat behind his desk and walked over to her. "I fell during mine and Kim's most recent call and landed in glass." She said screwing her eyes shut at the discomfort she was feeling. "Come on let's get you cleaned up." Jay said giving her a sympathetic look then taking hold of her left arm and walking with her to the break room. He got her to sit down on one of the chairs while he went and got things from the first aid kit to clean her up. He looked at her hands first and luckily neither of them were bleeding they were just covered in dirt and a little scratched so she just went and washed her hands with anti bacterial soap to clean them up, she felt a slight nip but it wasn't too bad. After she cleaned her hands Jay told her to come sit back down so he could check her knees. "Can I roll up your jeans?" Jay asked, Hailey nodded her head and let out a small "mhm." Once Jay rolled up her jeans his eyes widened, he didn't expect it to be as bad as it was. Both of her knees had massive cuts across them they were deep enough that they were bleeding heavily and the blood had began to run down her leg. Jay got two clean cloths and had began applying pressure to both of Haileys knees. She tensed her knees at the contact and Jay noticed. "I'm sorry if this is hurting you Hails but I really need to stop the bleeding." He continued to hold the cloths on her knees for quite a while and eventually after 10-15 minutes the bleeding had finally stopped. "I'm going to clean your knees now so I'm just warning you that it might sting a little, you can hold onto my shoulder and squeeze it if you need to." Jay said looking up at her and giving her a small smile to try comfort her. He removed all the glass from her knees then wiped over the cuts and as soon as he did this Hailey winced in pain and squeezed Jays right shoulder with her hand. "I'm sorry I had to do that, I don't like seeing you in pain but at least the hard parts done now, I just need to put a layer of ointment on them and wrap them up so they don't get infected." Jay said as he picked up the antibiotic ointment and applied a thin layer over her knees, he then got a couple of bandages and wrapped them around her knees. "There you go, all cleaned up." He said giving her shoulder a gentle squeeze. "Thank you Jay, you didn't have to do that for me but I really appreciate that you did." Hailey was feeling really lucky to have Jay. "I know I didn't have to but I wanted to." He replied leaning down and placing a kiss on her lips.

Hailey left the break room to go put on a pair of joggers and a clean jumper as she remembered she had a spare pair of clothes in her locker. While Hailey was away doing that Jay phoned his brother Will and told him what happened Will told him everything would be fine but her bandages should be changed once a day or whenever they get dirty or wet and he told Jay to keep an eye out on the cuts changing at all because if they become red,warm,painful or start swelling that's signs of infection and that means Hailey would need to see a doctor. He also said if either of them have any concerns or worries then they should just phone him and he would come to them to have a look in person. Hailey came back from getting changed a couple minutes after Jay got off the phone to his brother, He told Hailey about what Will had said so she was aware of the different signs of infection to look out for. "Do you want a hug?" Jay asked putting his arms out, she walked straight into them and wrapped her arms around his waist. He just stood still holding her in his embrace. "You okay?" He questioned wanting to know how she was feeling and if she was in any pain at all. "Yeah I'm okay just in a little bit of pain cause of my knees." She said letting out a sigh of annoyance. Jay could tell she was frustrated that she had gotten hurt as she wouldn't be able to do certain things at work like chase suspects or kneel to look for evidence until her knees were better.

Jay spent the whole time Hailey was healing, helping her in any way he could he changed the dressing of her bandages every day and kept an eye out to make sure it was staying clean.

Since I said in my previous one shot that I would give you all a sneak peek at the Upstead related project I'm working on I thought it was only fair that I kept my promise so here it is...

An upstead book! Don't worry I'm still going to be uploading my one shots but this is another thing that I currently have in the works. All you can see in the picture above is the front cover of the book but that's all I'm going to be giving you for now until I start actually uploading parts to the book, i hope this is a nice surprise and it isn't underwhelming for anyone and I can't wait to start sharing it with you all soon🫶
