Things between Jay and Hailey were currently the best that they had ever been, they had just gotten married a couple months ago and were now living together in an apartment they bought. Work had still been having its difficulties, it always did, the job they did wasn't easy so it was inevitable that they would deal with difficult cases or a mix of other things but Jay and Hailey were always making sure they communicated with each other and had open, honest conversations about things that were going on for them or bothering them so they could help each other get through them and so they understood how the other person was feeling.
Hailey was currently driving around in her car trying to process the information she had just found out. She was pregnant. She drove through the streets of Chicago with all these different thoughts popping up in her head "I need to tell Jay" "what if he reacts badly" "what if this isn't what he wants" "I'm going to be a mom" "I'm actually pregnant." The different thoughts played through her head in a loop. She felt so many different emotions right now such as fear, happiness, shock, confusion, disbelief, excitement. She knew she wanted to keep this baby, she knew from the very moment she found out and she never once considered anything else. Hailey and Jay had never really had a proper in depth discussion about them having their own children but neither of them had ever said they don't want any kids either. Hailey knew she had to tell Jay but she didn't know how to go about it and she couldn't bring herself to tell him just yet, especially as he was currently away for the week with his brother Will, this was definitely not the sort of news she wanted to tell him over the phone, she knew she didn't want to wait ages to tell him but she also knew she couldn't do it right now since he wasn't with her in person.
Hailey spent the next few days going about as normal or at least trying to go about as normal. She went to the doctors just to check everything over and she found out she was currently 7 weeks pregnant and there was no concerns so far which was good. The doctor gave her some advice and information in the form of booklets and leaflets then she went home.
So far Haileys only main symptoms were nausea/morning sickness and headaches, they weren't too severe and they weren't having any major affects on her life and work, however Hailey had just got back from a car chase and was now sitting at her desk in the district, she felt a wave of nausea hit her and she knew she was going to be sick so she got up and speed walked to the bathroom trying not to attract anyones attention. A handful of times over the past few days whenever Hailey's done something that involves intense movement or being in the car going over speed bumps her nausea has been triggered and she's thrown up. She was hoping no one really noticed but she was wrong as almost everyone knew or had a suspicion there was something going on with her because this wasn't like her at all, she was rarely ever sick and things like car chases and going after suspects on foot never made her have this reaction before. She came back from the bathroom and as she walked back to her desk and began doing paperwork she could feel eyes on her and she ignored it for a while but it got to a point where she could literally feel multiple peoples eyes burning into the back of her head. "Alright what is it?" Hailey questioned everyone, spinning around in her chair to look at them. They were all taken aback as they didn't expect her to turn round. "Is everything alright Hailey?" Kevin asked her "Yes everything is fine." Hailey said "are you sure? to be honest we're all beginning to get a bit worried about you" Kim said in a gentle tone. "Yes I'm sure, I promise there's nothing to be worried about." Hailey smiled at them all, trying to reassure them so they would stop asking her. "Are you sure you're feeling well, we've all noticed you feeling sick a lot recently and we've also heard you being sick multiple times, you ill or?" Adam asked her. That was it for Hailey she knew she was going to have to tell everyone about her pregnancy eventually but she didn't want to tell anyone just yet as it was early days and she wanted Jay to be the first to know but before she could stop the things she was thinking from coming out of her mouth she had already said them. "I'm pregnant." Was all she said her voice going a fraction louder. She was met with wide eyes and open mouths as everyone on the teams facial expressions turned to shock as they were stood in front of her silently processing the news she just shared with them, as they stood too shocked to speak she let them know something else. "No one else knows apart from you all, not even Jay because I only found out a few days ago and he's not back till the end of the week so I'm waiting till then as I want to tell him in person so no one say anything to anyone at all, okay?" Hailey told them and everyone nodded before going over to hug and congratulate her. Everyone's reactions made her feel a little less anxious about telling Jay and she also felt like this weird weight had been lifted off of her chest as she had been keeping it to herself and now other people instead of just her knew.
It was now Sunday morning and Jay was due back in the late afternoon. Hailey was doing everything she could think of to distract herself such as cleaning, shopping, walking and cooking. Every moment she wasn't doing something her mind would begin to wander and she would start overthinking and getting anxious about Jay coming back as she knew she had to tell him today. She had just took the pasta bake she made out of the oven when her phone pinged, it was a text from Jay saying he was going to be back within the next 25-30 minutes. Haileys heart began to race as she stood and watched the hands on the clock tick around in a circle, she stood watching the seconds pass by for a good five minutes before she decided to get in a quick hot shower to try calm herself down, around five minutes after she got out of the shower Jay came through the apartment door, Hailey greeted him and they gave each other a hug and kiss. They then sat at the dining table and ate some of the pasta bake Hailey had made earlier and Jay told Hailey all about his week with Will. He asked how she was and she said she was alright, then he turned around and asked what she'd been up to this week, As soon as he asked her this Hailey knew she should just tell him now.
"Actually I've got something I need to tell you Jay..." Hailey said.
I've decided to end this chapter here but I'm more than happy to write a part 2 to continue on this one shot if some people have detailed ideas of what to write in the next chapter such as how jay should react etc. Just let me know and I'll do it. Also I hope everyone that celebrates Halloween had a fun and safe day/night yesterday🧡
