Descriptions of scenes and also lines from season 9 episode 13 of Chicago P.D. by Dick Wolf are used in this chapter so full credit to him for those parts but everything else is my own writing.
Jay, Hailey and Kevin had all been trying to find a suspect for a good few hours now. They were all stood outside talking about where they thought the suspect could possibly be and when Hailey looked up she saw the suspect leaving a store with a couple bags in his hands. As soon as Hailey made eye contact with the suspect and he saw her he dropped his bags and started running to try get away. Hailey and Jay started chasing him on foot while Kevin got in the car to try chase after him that way.
Hailey and Jay had been chasing him together but Jay decided to go in the opposite direction of Hailey in the hope of cutting him off, this wasn't what ended up happening though as Hailey managed to stay right on the back of the suspects heels. He ended up going into a place called Newport athletics and Hailey made sure to communicate what was going on through her radio. She continued her pursuit and ended up inside the building where the suspect was. She lost eyes on the suspect for a couple of minutes until she heard a creaking noise and decided to follow where it came from. She walked slowly with her gun held up in front of her until she got out of the changing room/shower area and out to the indoor swimming pool where he came up behind her and grabbed her by wrapping both his arms around her body, she tried to fight him off but he just kept fighting her back, he got her pinned down to the floor and pushed her gun out of her hands, as soon as Hailey tried to reach for it he picked it up, Hailey gripped it tightly as she obviously did not want to let him have it. "I saved your life." Hailey grunted from under him before snatching her gun out of his hands and pushing him away from her.
He ended up flying forward and landing in the pool. Hailey stood with her gun pointed down in the direction of the pool, prepared for him to swim up to the surface and try fight her again. She waited a couple seconds before lowering her gun and walking closer to the pool, she looked down from where she was standing and after a further few seconds she realised he wasn't moving and he was just laying face down at the bottom of the pool. She stood for a moment contemplating what to do before she dived into the pool to get him. She hooked her arms under his and swam him up to the surface, a big gasp escaping her lips as her head came out from under the water.
"Hailey!" Jay shouted from another room trying to locate where exactly she was. "Yeah, here!" She replied her voice going up at the end due to the pressure on her chest from the guy she was still holding up in the water. "Jesus" was all Jay said as he entered the pool and saw the sight in front of him, his wife holding up a man while in water and trying to also keep herself a float at the same time. He rushed over to the edge of the pool, putting his gun away in his pocket so he had both hands free to help Hailey. "Here take him." She said dragging him over to where Jay was so he could pull him up out of the water. As soon as he was out of the water Hailey rested her arms on the top stair of the pool ladder, she closed her eyes and tried to catch her breath.
"Are you okay?" Jay thought deep down this was a stupid question to ask as he could clearly see the exhaustion on her face and he could tell by her body language she had no energy left. She never even replied to his question. He went over to her and kneeled down so he was on a similar level to her. "C'mon Hails I'm going to help you get out alright." He said getting his hands and placing one under each of her arms to pull her up. As soon as she felt his touch she opened her eyes and looked up at him "I don't have the strength to do this Jay." She whimpered, she was feeling mentally and physically drained and tired. "Hey it's okay I know your exhausted, you don't need to do anything except keep your body and muscles relaxed so I can pull you up." He managed to pull her up out of the water and as soon as he did he sat on the floor and Hailey fell forward into his chest. He didn't even care about the fact she was soaking wet from the pool he pulled her into his embrace wrapping his arms around her tightly and protectively and placing multiple little kisses on the top of her head, feeling a huge amount of relief that his wife wasn't seriously injured.
