Y/N was putting on a bit of makeup when she heard the boys come in. They were easy to hear as they were always laughing about something.

Steve, Bucky and Y/N had been friends since primary school. The one thing they all had in common: parents who didn't love them quite enough. So they had been family for just about as long.

Y/N inherited an old Victorian house from her grandparents which she now ran as a bed and breakfast. Steve and Bucky lived there too as her unofficial maintenance men.

It was the only "proper way" they could all be together.

She walked out of the bathroom to see her friends. Steve smiled when he saw her. "My, my, doll. Don't you look spiffy." Steve said.

Y/N blushed. "I was dropping off some food donations with the officers downtown and one of them asked me out to dinner."

"You're going on a date with some guy you don't know?" Bucky asked incredulously.

Y/N smiled at Buck. "He can't be worse than the guys I do know." Y/N teased.

"Hey!" Steve said reaching for an apple on the kitchen table. "Present company excluded." Y/N said with a laugh.

Buck crossed his arms. "I don't like it."

Y/N gave him a look that said 'I can take care of myself.'

Steve, as small as he was, tried to stand tall. "I'm sure it'll be fine and if not, call the house. We'll come get you."

Before anyone could say anymore, a car honked outside. "That's him!" Y/N squealed.

"He's not going to come in and get you?" Bucky asked again looking annoyed as he pulled back the window curtains.

Y/N gave Steve a quick kiss on the cheek. "I'll call if I need anything." she said.

Then she rushed up to Buck. She kissed his cheek too. He exhaled. "Promise you'll call?" She gave him a soft smile. "Have a fun boys night. Don't disturb the guests. Yes, I will call you if I need ANYTHING."

She grabbed her bag and was out the door before either friend could comment any more.

Y/N had been on her date for 1 hour and 26 minutes. Not that Bucky was counting or anything. He just kept looking at the clock....

He had whipped open a bottle of bourbon 32 minutes after she had been gone.

He had convinced, if not forced, Steve to have a glass 46 minutes after she was gone.

He had beaten Steve at 4 rounds of poker by the time she had been gone 1 hour and 3 minutes. And even that had failed to make him feel better.

"Buck, you may want to slow down." Steve commented.

Bucky looked down at his almost empty bottle. Steve had barely touched his half filled glass. Which meant Bucky basically finished this bottle alone. He glugged the rest down in one gulp.

"What is going on with you?" Steve asked. Bucky shrugged. He stood and walked over to the liquor cabinet in search of another bottle.

"Is this about Y/N's date? You've been acting weird since she told us." Bucky opened the next bottle without a word.

"It is, isn't it? You like Y/N! Why...you haven't said a word of it."

Bucky came back to their poker game. "Let's forget it." he mumbled.
