Sunday flies by and suddenly Natalie is starting work. Linda emailed her a breakdown of her daily tasks yesterday and Natalie can contact her for clarification if needed. Harry is more than happy to show Natalie to where her office is this morning so here she is, doing research.
The building they all work in is literally 2 minutes away from their house, so they all walked there in the morning. It looks like a warehouse, and it has tons of rooms. It's where the boys will be rehearsing and recording until they tour again.
There is a small stage, a studio with soundproof walls and lots of equipment, lots of storage spaces, a cafeteria, as well as her office and some others – the building is huge, she could probably get lost in it if she tried.
Her office is a bit secluded; it's a small room with not much in it but a table, a comfortable rolling chair, and a couch, but it's just what she needs. Harry told her he is going to look into it and see if she can decorate it in some way, but the plain walls don't bother her.
Her job is to monitor the boy's social media pages, to start with she is focusing more on their individual pages and then as the tour gets closer she will slowly increase the frequency of using the band's page. She needs to pay attention to engagement, see which posts get the most interaction. She's going to look at when it's posted, the content of the post and different things like that so they can try to increase the number of followers that view the content and attract new followers as well.
It involves a lot of research and analytics, but that is what she studied after all, so it isn't too difficult for her. She also has to monitor trends in pop culture and music to make sure they don't fall too behind. The tricky part is making sure not to lose the boys' personalities in it. You can have great content, but if you lose the person, it's meaningless.
The final part of her job is responding to emails and more promotional work, she has to contact businesses to partner with them and set up interviews closer to the start of the tour. The tour isn't for another five months, which is a pretty long time for the boys. Management decided they needed some time to spend with their families and recharge before starting up again. (I know this didn't happen, but I wish it did)
They work a typical 9-5 Monday to Friday with an hour for lunch, much like most jobs (I also know this isn't true, but for the sake of the story lets pretend). Some weekends they will have to come in and she has to keep an eye on her email basically all the time, but there are only a few contacts she has to answer urgently.
She's a little afraid for lunch time, she packed a lunch with her for the first day, not knowing what they would have or if she should eat with the boys and the rest of the team. She decides to take a break at 12 and eat her lunch alone, too afraid to venture out and get lost or maybe the boys want space. They do seem incredibly nice, but she doesn't want to be overbearing.
About 10 minutes later she hears a knock at her door, she pauses her music and gets up to open the door.
"Hey, come in." She says when she sees it's Niall.
"Hey, what are you doing in here?" Niall asks.
"Oh, I wasn't sure what you all did for lunch, and I packed my own so," she shrugs and looks down, sitting back down in her chair.
"No, come on! You have to come eat with us!"
"Are you sure? I don't want to be annoying."
"Annoying? Why would you think that?"
"I just know you all are so close I didn't want to like, impose or something."
"Nonsense! I've about had enough with those guys, it's nice to talk to someone else." He says with a bright smile. "Come on I have some pizza out there with your name on. You like pizza?" He asks.
"Love it!"
"Alright then let's go."
She stands up and once they get out of the door Niall slings his arm around her shoulders and guides her to the cafeteria.
"Hey Natalie, there you are!" Harry says happily and everyone looks at her.
Everyone except for Louis says hi or waves, but she just passes it off as he doesn't know her and maybe he is shy.
She sits down in between Niall and Harry. Liam asks how her day is going while Niall gives her some pizza. They sit and talk and eat, Louis ignores her for the most part which she finds weird, but she goes with it. She doesn't want to start a problem, so she doesn't bring it up.
Lunch passes by quickly and soon enough everyone has to get back to work. Liam offers to walk her back to her office so she doesn't have to go alone.
"I think she's more than capable to walk on her own, Liam," Louis mumbles and rolls his eyes.
Natalie turns around to him shocked, not expecting him to say anything, much less something rude.
"Oh piss off Louis." Liam says and he puts his hand on Natalie's back gently guiding her towards the direction of her office.
"I take it he doesn't really like me." She says quietly.
"Don't mind him, he's moody."
"Hm," she nods, but she still doesn't know what she did to piss him off.
"Really, don't think too much about it, he's just like that. Not that it's okay, but he just is." Liam says shrugging. "If it's any consolation, the rest of us already really like you." He says looking at her with a smile.
They make it to her office, and she turns to him and smiles, "Thank you Liam. The rest of you have been very nice."
She leans over and gives him a quick hug and then gets worried, "Sorry, not very professional of me. I hope I didn't cross a boundary or anything." She says looking down.
Liam reaches out and puts a hand on her arm, "No, not at all. Hug me anytime."
He leaves with a smile, and she gets back to work. She makes a marketing plan for the next two weeks and it seems doable, she submits it for authorization from Linda and quickly gets an okay. She's happy with her work, but she's worried about how Louis is going to react to her asking him to post more.
She's not singling him out, they all need to, she just only anticipates it to be a problem from him. Like she said though, she is really not to make judgements until she knows him better, maybe her anxiety is just getting the better of her and it will all go smoothly.
