"Can I ask you something?" Louis asks after knocking on Natalie's bedroom door.
"Surely."
"Would you be like offended if I bought you a dress and like asked you to wear it?" He asks sheepishly.
"No, I don't think so. Why would I be offended by that?" She doesn't really understand the nature of the question.
"Well I just wouldn't want you to think I don't like the way you look because I really do."
"No I get that," she says, "And thank you."
"Of course."
"So are you asking for any reason in particular or?" She trails off.
"Oh yeah, well I wanted to ask you out on a date." He shrugs
"You did? To where?" She asks happily, walking up to him and hugging him around the waist. She rests her chin on his chest and looks up at him.
He leans down to kiss her forehead before answering, "Well, I talked to security and called a couple restaurants and found one where I can get us a table like in the back. Not that I don't want to show you off, I do-"
"It's okay baby. I know I was the one that asked for us to be quiet about it." She thinks a second. "Does that bother you?" She never asked him if this is really what he wants.
They talked about it before, but once she said her opinion, he didn't say what his was. She didn't realize that until now.
"No it's okay," he says quickly, too quickly. "I know you like your privacy."
"Yeah, but this isn't just about what I want. It matters what you want too. I'm so sorry I haven't asked you until now."
"No, it's okay," he's hesitating to answer and she knows it. He doesn't want to say how he feels and she hates that.
"You can say it," she says taking one of his hands in both of hers.
"I guess, if it were up to me I wouldn't really be quiet about it. I'm sorry, I know that's not what you want."
"Thank you," she says softly, deep in thought.
"For what?"
"For being honest. I wish you had told me sooner though."
"I know I could have, but I didn't want to. I want to respect your privacy." He says with a shrug.
"Yeah but what about what you want?"
"I want to respect your privacy more than I want to be able to post a couple of pictures of the two of us." He's so insistent and she's so grateful for the way he protects her, but he can't sacrifice what he wants for her.
"But I want you to be happy."
"I am happy," he says burying his face in her neck and kissing it. "Very happy."
"Louis, I'm being serious, I don't want you to compromise on what you want." She says pushing his head back gently.
"Being with someone means compromising on some things love. It's not possible to get exactly everything you want." He says sweetly.
She thinks for a little while. "So let's compromise."
"What do you mean?" He asks.
"So let's go to the restaurant, like normal people. No secret room." She decides.
"Love, people will notice."
"Maybe, but maybe we can get security to let us in the back way and let us sit in the corner or something."
