A Mate's Betrayal

Part 33

Ryker's POV

I've done a lot of missions but this was by far a surprising one. First of all, Abe was so convinced that one of the council members was funding Anthropoid Pharmaceuticals because they managed to run a facility in the middle of a busy town disguising it as a branch. According to our hostage, the facility was underground and most of the workers had no idea what was going on. Only a handful of people did and access was limited to scientists, engineers, and top management.

"There has to be another way", Ronan said as he stretched. He has been on the lookout with me for the past day. I had to call him because I couldn't survive with Chase being part of my group. I could tell that he still had feelings for my mate and knowing that was distraction enough so I called Ronan and paired him with Ethal.

"There is but it's miles from here and it only has one way in and out. It's like a bunker that they use to pack the serum for transport", our captive said. "Let's go through that, Ethal and Chase can handle this side they're less messy anyways", Ronan reasoned making me smirk. We told Ethal about the plan and left before she could protest.

It was a two-hour drive but we finally found a place to hide the car and proceeded on foot. "Those are the cargo cars. We can get in now. They're empty so they're not checked at this point", the captive said so we decided to take the risk and slipped into one of the cars.

He was right nobody bothered checking. When the car stopped we heard people talk for a bit but waited until it was quiet. "Goddess! This is a lot!", Ronan said looking at the warehouse. I took pictures and sent them to Abe and Ethal. We set bombs on most of the packages and then drove one of the cars out of the facility. The guard tried to ask us questions but Ronan took care of him before he could process anything. It was until we reached our car that the bombs went off and we started hearing screams. 'Ethal? Any activities on that end?', 'Yes, they're heading down, we got them', she mind-linked back.

When we returned we found Ethal with a couple of hostages. We collected them and took them to Cyrus's pack for questioning. I was feeling tired so I decided to take a nap for an hour or two. I told Cyrus and he took me to the room that was prepared for me. I was out like a light in seconds.

'Ryker? Please tell me you're ok', her sweet voice rang through our mind-link making me smile. My body was suddenly energised. 'I'm fine Little one. I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a disappointment I'm just stupid sometimes', I said hoping she would notice my honesty. 'I don't care I just want you back. Please come back', she pleaded and it warmed my heart to know that she was thinking of me. 'I'm almost done Rina, I'll be back before you know it and when I do, I'll make up for everything. I promise', I said. 'I'll hold you to it', she said and I could feel her smile.

'I love you Ryker and I would rather die than betray you', she said making my chest hurt, she was still thinking of what I said to her. I knew it was wrong but I didn't think that it was going to hurt her feelings at the time, all I could think of was the pack. I forgot that she was one of the pack members too. She's mine.

'I'm sorry Rina. I didn't mean it that way. I panicked and said the first thing that came to mind without thinking. You are everything to me', I pleaded. 'I know. I spoke to Abe and he made me see the positive side of things', she said her voice calming me. I was grateful for having Abe and that he was able to talk to my mate.

"Feeling better?", Cyrus asked when I walked into his office. "Yeah, I think I'm ready for them now", I said making him smile. "So I've been told that you're mated to Erinna", he said while avoiding my eyes. "That's correct", I replied sitting on the visitor chair that was in front of him. "Quite a special mate you have there your Majesty", he said slowly like he was trying to pick the right words so that he wouldn't piss me off. I wouldn't blame the guy he was old so it was obvious that he knew what I was capable of.

"Meaning...", I trailed off allowing him to mess things up. "I mean it's obvious that all Royals are blessed with unlimited power but what happened in that cell was new and something tells me she's responsible for it and I hope the hunters won't find out about it or they would use her to make weapons that might help them win the war", he said sipping his whiskey slowly. "What are you saying, Cyrus? You above all people should know that am too old to beat around the bush", I baited him.

The thing with Cyrus is, he's always power-hungry. He got his title by challenging a previous Alpha and when his firstborn was a female, he made sure she was mated to an Alpha so that he can have an upper hand when there was war. So it wasn't going to come as a surprise if he suggested harvesting Erinna's blood and doing something with it that will most definitely benefit him.

"I was thinking that we use her to create super soldiers of our own. Beat the hunters at their own game. They have a weapon of mass destruction so let's make ours through Erinna. The Royal Pack has the best scientists in the world, I bet they can make something in a blink of an eye", he said finishing his whiskey with a huge smile on his face.

"Over my dead body!", someone said from behind me and when I turned it was Chase. And man he looked pissed. "Chase, you're a mated man this doesn't concern you", Cyrus barked. "Wanna do the honours?", I asked Chase while standing up and stepping out of the way. "Gladly", he replied and charged for Cyrus.

He was headless in seconds. No one was going to know about Rina and I was happy that Chase and I were on the same page when it came to her safety.
