A Mate's Betrayal

Part 44

"I called her here. Erinna needs time to herself, I thought she would fit perfectly since she is a mother figure to her. Do you have a problem with that", Abe said with a straight face stunning me in the process. Ryker seemed shocked. "No. I just thought... I thought she invited her here", he said trying to control his temper. "Would it be wrong if she did? I mean, they do have history", Abe asked knowing the answer very well. "Well no. I just prefer being told before we have visitors over. Especially when it's someone from River Fall Pack", he said fully calm.

I saw his mark peaking on his shirt and I wanted to see it but I just couldn't talk to him at the moment. Being around him felt wrong and it pained me but I needed to be alone.

"You can go now, Erinna. Let me know if you need anything ok?", Abe said then hugged me. "Thank you", I said holding back my tears. Ryker wanted to follow me but Abe stopped him and then nod his head at me. I left without looking at Ryker.

Three Months Later

"That smells amazing", Chase said walking into Renee's house with Mia. "Please tell me you made burgers", she said jumping up and down with excitement as I placed burgers in the middle of the table. "You are a goddess", she said washing her hands and then rushing to the table. "Babe, can you please hurry up? We're hungry and this looks mouth-watering", Hank said making me giggle.

Mia is Chase's second chance mate. They met when he was in the middle of dealing with the Velma situation. She is amazing and has been his rock ever since.

Hank, on the other hand, is Renee's second chance mate and we met him during our ladies road trip. He is a construction engineer who was helping Ronan rebuild his barn. So yeah he is a bear and Mia is a werewolf.

I haven't returned to the Royal Pack yet and Ryker hasn't asked for me so I decided to stay and help Renee run the cafe. I figured if I was important to him, he would come and we would talk about the elephant in the room other than that my life at River Fall Pack was good enough for me. I face time with Mildred, Blade, and Beatrice all the time and I know all their milestones which am grateful for. I talk to Chris too, he tells me about his inventions and I cheer him on in some experiments via video call so I haven't missed much.

I know Ryker is blocking my mind link and his emotions so I did the same. If we were meant to be then I think time won't matter and we will be together... eventually.

I was washing the dishes when I started feeling dizzy and passed out. I woke up in the hospital and the first thing I saw was Renee's huge smile.

"What?", I asked feeling nervous. "You're pregnant!", she said happily shocking me in the process. "What?", I asked. The Doctor got in and told me the same and all I could do was thank god. I couldn't believe the mark worked. I was so excited and I tried to mind-link Ryker but I couldn't get to him so I took my phone and texted Cleo and then Mildred and told them the same. They were so happy and Mildred promised to tell Ryker who was apparently in training camp. It gave me hope that he wasn't blocking me on purpose it was because he was busy with work.

The Doctor discharged me and gave me some meds because I was human so I was going to have a normal pregnancy just bigger babies. Yes, he thinks am having twins but he is not sure if it's two or three. He says like it's a normal thing but am terrified inside and I wish Ryker was here to tell me everything was going to be ok.

"I am going to be a grandma... this is so exciting Hank", Renee hugged Hank who seemed to match her energy. I loved them, they were amazing. At first, I thought Hank would hate having me around thinking there was no privacy but he ended up treating me like his own daughter and it made me happy.

I woke up feeling amazing. Got dressed and went to the cafe. Abe told me to return to the Royal Pack... correction demanded me and I did a pitying voice and he gave me an extra week so here I was counting down the days. I went to open the cafe and started baking some croissants when I was done I place them on display as other workers got it and finally Renee. I watched as Hank peppered her with kisses making her giggle then got into the cafe. She greeted everyone with extra sass making me smile.

"Someone got some this morning", I teased and the blush that appeared on her face told me I was right. "Get back to work you four", she said playfully making me frown. "The Doctor said MIGHT be triplets. He is not sure, stop jinxing it Renee", I said putting my hand on my slowly disappearing waist. Yes, I was growing daily which gave Renee a reason to tease me every day even though she said I was glowing too. "Have you heard from Ryker yet?", she asked with hope in her eyes but I shook my head and went back to serving customers.

The day went by as usual, with a lot of customers and delivery orders. It was a nice way to pass the time. I thought of what Ryker would say or act when they tell him the news. It was terrifying and exciting at the same time. I released a breath and hoped for the best as I rubbed my baby bump with a smile. We were finally going to be parents.

I usually returned home with Renee but today, I wanted to walk home. I needed to clear my head and walking seemed to make me feel better so I decided to go for it.

I walked a couple of blocks then I felt like someone was watching me but when I turned, no one was there. I continued walking and then someone grabbed me from behind and when I looked it was Rex. He pressed a cloth on my mouth and nose and all I saw was darkness.
