A Mate's Betrayal

Part 36

Ryker's POV

To say I'm pissed is an understatement. Thanks to Mildred I was able to control myself and pretend to be calm every time Rina reached out to me via mind-link. I can barely sleep and my beasts are restless, I thought Brenton will be able to calm us but he was worse. We're all too attached to Rina and it's driving me crazy. "Hey! Snap out of it! We can't afford to make any mistakes on this", Ethal said just when Abe entered the office wearing his combat clothes. 

"Where do you think you're going?", I asked him but instead of answering he started inspecting the maps that Ethal had on the table. Before I could press more Chase and Ronan walked in. "Guys, you're not coming with me", I said as a matter of fact. "And why would you think that we're going to let you do this alone?", Abe asked.

"Abe this is dangerous and as far as we know only I am immune to their serum", I stated like it was the most obvious thing for them to know. "Tell us something we don't know", Ronan said. "Guys, I can't be responsible for you. My team and I can handle this", I assured them. "Excuse us please", Abe told the rest of them. 

"Ryker, I'm here as your brother, not your King. Rina is my family too and I can't just stay behind and let you go through this alone. Mildred gave me her blessings because she knows that we don't abandon our own. That and the fact that Rina is the only one who can make you loosen up", he said squeezing my shoulder. I pulled him in a hug.

"Ok Ryker, stick to the plan", Abe told me as we parted ways. Thanks to our hunter hostage, we were able to know that Killian's mansion had a back entrance. I was happy that we listened to Ronan for the first time and didn't kill the idiot.

"Let's bring her home", I said then drove up to the main gate. The guards inspected my car and then told me to get out of it. They inspected me and when satisfied they asked, "Who are you and why are you here", the guard in a black suit asked me. "My name is Ryker Baldric and I'm here to collect my mate. Tell Killian that, and he'll understand", they were in shock when I mentioned their Boss's name. He told me to wait and I did.

A buff man appeared from behind the gates, he looked impressive for a human. "Ryker, I've been told that you wanted to see me. What can I do you for?", he asked as more guards appeared behind him, a quick count told me it was twenty but I kept my cool. "Killian, I don't want any trouble, I'm here for Rina", I said calmly. "Oh, so you are the one who marked her. From what I hear, you're a decent guy and you mean a lot to her, but I hate to tell you... I can't give her back to you. She was mine first", he said shrugging his shoulders. "Can she tell me that herself then? if she does, I'll leave, you have my word", I said hoping he was stupid enough to say yes. 

"Sure, on one condition", he said turning to a guard that had a briefcase. When they opened it, it had some weird-looking handcuffs. "You have to wear these", he said with an evil smile. "What are they?", I asked. "Just an insurance policy, nothing you should be worried about given that you're a man of your word", he replied sarcastically.

'They have wolfsbane and silver. Accept it. Brenton and I won't be affected by it, we will help Spike push through', Renzo said making me nod and put my wrists out. "You're different. I guess love is blind after all", another hunter said. He looked like someone the rest respected as well. I figured it was the right-hand man. I released a breath when they touched my skin, I braced myself for the pain but it felt like an annoying itch. "Perfect, now follow me", Killian said and I did as I was told.

"Wait here, I'm going to get her", Killian said leaving me behind with his right hand. "So tell me how does this mate thing work?", he asked and I pretended to hiss from the pain I got on my wrists. I bowed my head and mind-linked Abe giving him the assessment report. 'Silver doesn't affect us', his mind-link clearly missing the point. 'Abe, they don't know that', I replied rolling my eyes mentally. 'Genius', he cheered then closed the mind-link. 

"Silver can be a bitch huh? If you ask me, coming here was the most stupid thing you could ever do man, especially for a woman that will never be yours again", the man said just when the door opened and my Rina walked in. "Ryker!", she said and rushed to me hugging me. It took all my strength to control myself when the sparks erupted from my chest, spreading all over my body. "Rina. I missed you Little one", I said burying my nose in the crook of her neck. Her scent was magical. 

She was pulled from me by Killian who looked very pissed. "She's mine!", he said angrily. "Killian you're hurting me", she whined making me boil with anger. But I needed to wait for Abe's signal. "You can't go to him Erinna, you're mine. Tell him", he urged. "What?", she asked with a trembling voice. "I can't Killian. He is my mate", she replied making him angrier. He slapped her hard until she fell to the ground.  I started panting because Brenton was forcing a shift and I couldn't let that happen just yet. The alarm sound went off making them panic. 

"Go check it", he told the other guy who started running to the door without looking behind. "I'm sorry Erinna. I didn't mean to hit you. I just panicked. I'm so sorry", Killian kneeled in front of Erinna who was sobbing with her hand on her bruised cheek.

'It's time', Abe mind-linked me making me smile. I stood up and easily broke the cuffs, making Killian's eyes go wide with shock. "Impossible. The handcuffs should be able to weaken any supernatural, I made sure of it. What are you?", he asked walking backward, pulling Rina with him. "Give me my mate and you won't have to find out", I said calmly. He looked between me and Rina and I almost gave him credit for being clever then he said,

"Never!".
