A Mate's Betrayal

Part 40

Ryker's POV

I wish I wasn't related to Abe, that way I wouldn't feel bad when I murder him for making my life miserable. I know he had a fight with Mildred and said something stupid that got us into the babysitting mess and here I am changing diapers while they heat Blade's milk. Ethal and I have tried to ask him what happened because we wanted to get this over with but he's not budging and it annoys me to my core.

They say I have anger issues but forget that my brother is the most stubborn person on earth.

"There you go, buddy. Let's go get your bottle", I told Blade tickling him a bit as we went to the kitchen to find a frustrated Abe trying to close a baby bottle not aware he was using the wrong lid.

"Look at Dada. He's losing his nuts", I said to Blade who started calling 'da da' over and over again. Abe's eyes softened at the sight of his son and it did something to my core. I think I want a baby too. I just hope Rina will agree to it.

He took Blade and gave me the bottle I closed it in record time making his eyes look at me like I grew two heads. Ethal walked in and made breakfast for us.

"I'm sorry I got us into this mess", Abe said avoiding our eyes. "It's all good. We needed a wake-up call", Ethal said clearly wanting to make her friend feel better. "Yeah... I think I needed the space too", I said making him look at me. I smiled, and he smiled back. "Look, I love her so much, I'd die for her but she drives me crazy sometimes you know?", he said making Ethal chuckle.

"I hear you. Chris is such a perfectionist that even putting the toothbrush on a counter and not the toothbrush holder can make him complain for days. I've over fifty Betas to put in line and the one time I want to enjoy being away from work, I get nagging from my mate, the person who was supposed to be my sanctuary", she said looking deep in thought.

"I know right? That's exactly what I told Mildred. She has been a warrior her whole life, how can she not understand that if I forget our anniversary is not because I did it on purpose but because I was busy taking care of the welfare of our existence... argh!", he said slamming his hand on the counter making Blade jump. I caught him and he started giggling thinking it was a game.

"Da da!", he said cheering making Abe look guilty. "I'm sorry little man", he said to him and he giggled back. Who would have thought that all this was because my very responsible brother forgot about the one day women fantasize about?

"Look, we're busy people but I think we should make an effort. They have feelings too and I'm sure being the pack scientist has its bad days. Have you ever tried asking him how his day went?", I asked Ethal who shook her head sadly. "Abe do you know what Mildred's favourite flower is?", he tried to answer but refrained. He didn't know.

"We can't be perfect but we can try to be", I said and he huffed. "It's easy for you to say Rina can never see a flaw in you. She's selfless and even when you make a mistake, she'll forgive you in a heartbeat", Abe said. "And even if she won't forgive him. The worse she would do is just remain quiet or cry when you're not looking. Our mates fight back. They'd torture you, making you learn the hard way", Ethal said and I knew she was right.

"Look, it's not a matter of what kind of mate we have but how much attention we give them and how we respond when they call us out on our bullshit", I said making them nod in agreement. 

"You guys are what I see when I picture a great mate and I think that we can fix this. We can become better. We just need to be willing to accept being wrong sometimes", I said making Abe smile. "What?", I asked. "I think Rina just made a decent person out of you", he teased. "Hell yeah. Loverboy is all in", Ethal said between laughs.

"Oh please! Don't get me started on you two. Where are the old uptight versions of you huh? One phone call and you're licking their feet", I said making us all laugh, well Blade just stared at us looking confused for a minute then went back to playing with my hair. Yes, he likes playing with my hair. Rina thinks it's soft so Blade thinks I'm a puppy, ironic, considering I am a Lycan.

"Don't remind me, he is so ticklish, I tickle him whenever I want to make him do something for me", Ethal said as if recalling the scenario. I pretended to vomit which made Abe laugh. "All I can say is. I never thought this is how things will turn out. Mildred is amazing and she deserves the world if you ask me. I just wish we could meet halfway you know? I know she misses going out and letting loose. I don't mind it, I just... we are the leaders of our race we can't afford that", he said sadly.

I stood up and went to my office with  Blade laying on my chest. I think the dude is addicted to my scent. He's always calm when I do the kangaroo thing with him. I opened my laptop to check my emails when I found a bunch of photos of  Rina and Mildred at Olympus looking sexy as fuck.

They were all over the gossip blogs and social media pages. Some articles praised them, some criticised them which I thought was ridiculous. They deserved to let loose too. It wasn't their fault that they were mated to Royal figures and that's when it hit me.

Abe is going to freak out. He hated being on blogs for such matters and here it was. Fuck! "I know that look. What's going on?", Abe asked, and before I could cover it up Blade choose to spill the beans, "Ma ma!". Abe used his Vampire speed and the next thing I know he was rushing out of the office bumping his shoulder on a shocked Ethal. "Get Blade's bag. We're going on an emergency trip", I said making Ethal rush to Blade's room.
