"You need to go to the bayou without me. Take Hope and Miracle. I'll be right behind you." Nik demands to Elijah and I, but the two of us exchange an annoyed look."Why?"
Nik sighs frustratedly, turning to face the two of us as he stands by the fireplace in the living room. "My daughters nearly died. I have to make sure the threat to them is over."
"Not without me you cannot." I snap at him, crossing my arms over my chest. "They're my daughters too and I'm going to protect them."
"Emma, Marcel loathes you and Elijah most of all. Freya will help me here. I need to know my children are safe. You, Elijah and Hayley can assure that." Nik sighs and before Elijah can get a word out, I beat him to it.
"Elijah and Hayley can go to the bayou, while the two of us stay here with Freya." I propose, making Nik roll his eyes at me.
"I don't want anything to happen to you. I don't want to lose you, especially when I waited too long to have you back in my arms." He walks over to me and takes my hand, placing his other hand on my cheek and I melt to his touch. "When all of this is over, I'm still going to make my promise come true. I'm going to take you to see the world like you've always wanted. However long it takes. I wouldn't forgive myself if something happened to you." He kisses my forehead and I nod my head in an understanding way, placing my head on his chest as he pulls me closer.
"I want to be beside you to find a solution. I understand you, I do. Nik... I also wouldn't forgive myself if something happened you." I whisper in his chest so that he's the only one that can hear me.
A sudden cough from behind us, makes us pull away and look at who ruined the moment. He raises his hands up in a defensive manner, standing beside Elijah who looks like he's thinking deeply about something.
"I could watch over the kids, you know?" Kai points out but Nik is quick to shake his head.
"No! They're going to the bayou with Hayley and Elijah. Brother, please." Nik begs and Elijah casts us one last glance before giving Nik a slight nod and he turns around to walk away.
"It's better this way, Kai." I mumble, sitting down on the couch after I pour myself some bourbon.
He coughs awkwardly before moving to sit in front of me. "I know the two of you don't trust me that much- at least not Klaus- but I wouldn't do anything to hurt them. Emma, you know that." Kai exclaims as Nik takes a sit next to me, wrapping his arm around my shoulder.
I sigh, looking at the fireplace. "If they're away from us, it's better for everybody. Less people will know about Mira and vampires don't go the bayou."
"I get it. I'm going to help Freya, I guess. Oh and you left your phone on the nightstand in their room. Bonnie was calling you." Kai tells me, surprisingly listening to us.
Is that a good thing?
He hands over my phone, walking out of the room and I immediately call Bonnie. "Hey, how are you?"
"I'm good. Travelling the world like I promised Enzo. So... how is Kai? How's everything? Where are you now?"
"Long story short: Kai is actually changing this time. Shocking, I know. Did more good than bad. Again shocking. Mira and Hope were sick because of this magical spirit called "the hollow". Now, we're trying to solve that. But taking all of that way... it's going great. We're in New Orleans. Married life is wonderful." I explain to her and at the last sentence Nik smiles at me, taking my hand and kissing it.
"I'm happy that you and Klaus are happy and finally settled down. I'll look into-." I cut her off.
"No, it's fine. You spend your whole life trying to save my sister and I and Jer. It's time you have some rest. Don't worry, Bonnie."
