II - 17 Waiting again

The city was all decked in its Christmas decorations. There were Christmas trees, garlands and decorations on every street corner. These first couple of days in a while had helped us to renew the magic of our relationship and we were more connected than ever. Yet I was really impatient to see my little Venice, my dear Macau and New and all the other family members.

- I'm pretty sure you're think about the family gathering already. Do you all miss them that much? I was hoping the only one you would be missing was me.

- Keep in mind that without you I would not even have that big family and all those people I'm so excited to see.

- Good answer. Vegas said with a smile.

As we drove up the driveway to the house I imagined them running to the car to greet us.

But what I had not anticipated was the huge "Long live the engaged couple" banner in front of the house.

Did everyone came to greet us? I suppose so, but then why was the driveway so empty ?

We got out of the car wondering with our eyes and walked to the entrance. In the hall, Macau was sitting on the couch with Venice in his arms, staring at the living room door. When he heard footsteps, he turned his gaze and his eyes lit up.

- There you are ! Oh no, now the surprise is spoiled !

Vegas, which had apparently been pining for these two, opened his arms in a big open way.

- Venice, Macau, come give me a hug !

Macau put Venice on the floor. He looked at us and, thrusting on his two arms, managed to stand up. With uncertain steps he came towards us, and shouted:

- Dadadada !!!!!

- My goodness Venice ! You walk !

Pete, looking at our little sweetheart's first steps, dropped on his knees next to me. After a few steps Venice stumbled and we both grabbed his arms and hug him.

- My boy, I wasn't even there for your first steps! Pete sobbed.

Macau came closer too and we could see his anxious eyes.

- What's going on? Vegas asked.

- When Kinn found out that you were planning to get married, he planned a surprise party to celebrate your return. He thought it would be good for strengthening the bonds between the main and minor families. The entire family gathered around to celebrate, but then a car showed up in a rush, with men I didn't recognize as being from the family. They started talking to Kinn and Porsche and all of them, family members and guards, were told to gather in the living room, except for Porchay and me. New didn't have time to speak to me but obviously it's bad.

- Go ahead. I said to Vegas. Venice was hugging me hard, his little fists clutching my shirt. - If the kid sees both of us leaving he is going to cry.

Vegas took one look at us and headed for the living room.

Vegas

- We must attack! She may be hurt, tortured or worse!

These few words had been launched by Porsche who was pacing back and forth, passing his hands feverishly through his hair.

I came closer to Kinn who had not yet realized I was there.

- What's going on?

Kinn looked at me and put an arm on my shoulder.

- Hey Vegas, sorry, this is all my fault. I wanted to gather the whole family to celebrate your engagement but on the road the car Namphueng was in has been attacked, her bodyguards killed and she disappeared. It just kills me seeing Porsche in this state! He believes it must have been the Italians because one of their men was found shot dead on the spot, but I wonder if it was really them or if it was a set-up. I can't afford to make any mistakes.

He turned to Porsche and added:

- Whether it's them or not, if we start attacking them it's all going to be a blood bath and your mother might die anyway. At least let us the time to investigate and, if it is confirmed, I swear that we will take her back.

Porsche shot him a fierce look.

- Investigate? About what? The only clue we have is this guy on the spot. How long do you expect me to wait? Until we find my mother dead in a ditch?

- Porsche, what's going on? Where's Mom? Why are you keeping me away?

Porschay just stepped into the room and walked over to his brother with tears in his eyes.

- Don't worry, Chay, I'll find her and bring her back.

Kinn was trying to grab Porsche's arm.

- Listen to me baby, I'm going to send men all over the city, we're going to use our connections to find out if anyone has any information and as soon as we find out more we'll get to work.

Porsche abruptly pulled away.

- Would you react like this if it was your father who had been kidnapped? It's our mother and we just reunited with her when we thought we were orphans! You are asking too much of me. So make up your mind: you're with me or you're against me, but either way I'm not going to wait one more minute.

Korn also tried to calm the discussion :

- Son you know for sure how much I love your mother but Kinn has a point, don't act on a whim.

Porsche turned his back to leave the room.

- We are finished talking to each other. Heading toward his men, he added:

- Let's move on to the weapons room first, then we'll work out our strategy of attack.

Porschay headed toward his brother when Kim stepped in.

- You're not stopping me. Let me go with my brother and stay with yours.

All the members of the secondary family were gathering to leave the house. Kinn, standing there with his arms flapping, watched them leave without knowing what to do.

As Porsche was about to leave the room, he suddenly froze and looked back.

- Vegas it's time to choose sides. Are you joining us or are you staying here?
