Chapter 1 - He changed..

These past few months had been hell for everyone. Erin had left. Jay was blamed for killing a young girl but the allegations were cleared. Al was nearly arrested. And Jay was involved with a girl in an undercover operation. Everything was hell for him, he didn't know what happened and how but he knew that this wasn't him anymore. Jay sat down at his desk staring at the empty desk infront him. He still had missed her. He would just sometimes stare at the desk when Hailey wasn't there. Don't get him wrong Hailey is a good partner. She's a good cop. But she could never be Erin Lindsey. No one would be able to match up with her. Jay thought he was over her since the day he became involved with a girl undercover, but no he still wasn't. The day she left he had rang her many times but she didn't answer at all. He tried every day there was no answer. So he gave up. The day voight told him to 'move on' he knew he had to for her. He tried. But he couldn't.

Voight sat in his office looking through the door as he saw his detective. Halstead had been through so much the past months. He would sometimes see him staring at his ex partners desk. But he knew he couldn't do anything. He was helpless. Erin had to go, voight didn't want her to go but he did it for her so she could have a good future, because if she was here she would have ruined her whole career within a minute.

Once the team was all gathered they started on the case.

' okay since we have had a few called about people going either missing or killed, I called up NYPD they said that this has recently been going on in New York to, so sergeant benson will be coming with her team in a while' Voight told everyone. He grabbed the papers from Halstead desk and planted them on the board.

' okay so we have these 3 people so far, these have all been murdered. This is aAlice Sydney. She's 24 years older and worked in a nursery. This is Betty Lang, she was also 24 years old and worked in a school. And this is Sophie Annie, who was 26 years old worked in a nursing home. We have already spoken to their families all I want you to do is find out anything else about these 3 girls. Contact your CI to check if there's anything suspicious going on'

' but why have they only targeted girls?' Ruzek asked.

' probably because they are lonely' al spoke from behind his computer.

' oh is that they pissed him off who knows' Atwater exclaimed from his desk. Once they were about to go in, voight looked at Kim and technically called him in his office. They all were too focused to see Kim going on but Adam saw that and was a bit confused into why Burgess was going in voights office.
Burgess shut the door behind her and sat down opposite her sergant.

' okay, I know you have been in contact with Erin and I know you know' Hank voight spoke.

' yeah uh I do' Kim put her eyes down not looking in the eyes of her best friends father. She didn't want to, she didn't want to see the heart break.

' only me you Al and Sergeant Benson know and her team' Kim brought her eyes back in her sergant whose eyes were lowered down.

' I haven't told anyone if your trying to ask me that' she was trying to be defensive because of course she wouldn't tell anyone. Only if Erin was comfortable.

' I know you wouldn't have, your loyal to Erin and I like that burgess. She's going to be coming with the New York team and all we have to do is look out of her. Even after I told her to leave the team she said she needed to do this case for the last time' She gazed her eyes down trying not the tears fall down her face. She quickly wiped them away so Hank couldn't see.

' okay, I will be there for her as long as she needs me to but serge you have to stay strong to. She's strong, she's practically your daughter. If your strong then she will be strong to' she gave him a half smile trying to reassure him and herself.

' thank you burgess, for everything. For not telling anyone. For going out to see her' she gave him a nod and left the room. Once she stepped outside she let out a deep breath she didn't know she was holding in. She looked around and saw her collleguge jay Halstead typing away on his computer. She didn't know what would happen to this man If her ever found it. This would definabtly break him, he would no longer be the man everyone knew.

Ruzek looked at her just staring at jay and was wondering what the hell happened. Of course Ruzek and burgess were friends but he still cared about her. He could see there was little bit of tears in her eyes. Kim caught Adam staring at with that she just quietly went to her seat.

Ruzek got him from his seat and walked to his former finance.

' hey Kim can I talk to you in private' he pointed his head into the break room.

Once they were there. Ruzek mainted a space between them.

' what's happend Kim, are you okay?' Oh shoot Kim thought, he saw the tears.

' nothing why. ' she brushed it off and went to the coffee machine to make coffee.

' look Kim we may not be together but yayy doesn't mean I don't care about you, you know' she wished to tell him, but this was not her secret to share.

' I know Adam, but I can't tell you this I really can't. I would have told you if it was my secret but it's not mine' she told him the truth because it really wasn't.

' okay but you know that I'm here for you if you ever need me' he gave her smile.

' I know now get out of here let me make my coffee in peace Will you' she raised one of her eyebrows and he backed away slowly.
Kim put her hands on the edge of the counter and breathed for a second. Erin was her best friend and now her coming back with her condition was terrifying. For her. For voight. For jay.

It had been a couple of hours since they were given the assignment. They didn't find anything related to all 3 friends. And their CI's had no idea about what was going on. They were all playing with each other but jay was just staring at his computer. Just dazed out of the world.

' hey Halstead are you always this grumpy or are you going to join in' Hailey said to him from the opposite desk. But he didn't look up instead he looked around and spoke.

' uh I could but you guys bore me out' he spoke.

' us bore you out. Instead you bore us out! What happend to the Jay Halstead that would join in with our conversations' Adam asked and he knew the reason. Kim gave him a glare knowing it was a tough topic.

' he changed' he spoke quietly but knew the rest of the unit heard him.
