Chapter 40: Home again

A few weeks later,
Erin had been sitting at home when Jay had gone into work and she had gotten a call from Hank to tell her to come into the office. He didn't say why, he told her that Jay was fine and so was he. So now she was wondering why she was calling him back in such an emergency. Erin even rang and texted Jay asking her why she was being called in, and he didn't know what was going on. She walked up the steps of the district to see Trudy there.

" hey serge" she greeted her, but this time Trudy didn't say anything. She was quiet which was unusual even for her. She just buzzed the gate and pointed up to the stairs. Erin looked at her sceptically. What was going on she thought. She walked to the steps leading up to the bullpen, she was hoping to find the members there. But it was completely empty, she walked straight to hanks office and knocked on the door.

" come in" hanks raspy voice beckoned. She walked in and sat on the chair opposite him.

" what's going on Hank? What's with the sudden emergency?" She looked at him and raised her eyebrows. After a moment of silence, he nodded his head and opened his drawer to grab something.

" just tell me!" She exclaimed. She was getting very annoyed with this silence. And he knew she was.

" I would like to welcome you back to intelligence" he held out her badge that she had told him to hang on before she went to New York. She gasped as she listened to what he told her, tears brimming in her eye. " your being serious right now?.. but how? How are they willing to reinstate me" she asked with her voice broken .

" I pulled some strings, this is for you kiddo, you deserve your place. Burgess is officially going on maternity leave so you will be here" in realty, it was hard to convince the commissioner. They had issued some conditions in which he had told his team about and they accepted it, they said ' we will do anything for Erin no matter what' the conditions were that the team was on surveillance for a year and new cameras were out it. But as long as she was back he didn't care what he had to do. He stood up and walked around his desk, she stood up at the same time and hugged him " thank you" she whispered. They withdrew from the hug and Hank placed her badge in her hand.

Erin wiped the badge and let out a big smile. She never thought she would be coming back, her dream job, the place that gave her a home to begin with. " you know.. with the cancer I never thought I would be back here, I thought I had said goodbye to this place.. but it looks like the universe doesn't want me to say goodbye just yet" she turned around and looked out the glass window showing the outside streets.

There was a knock on the door that startled them both, Erin who was closest opened the door and what was there really took her on by surprise. There was a congratulations banner , cake and her family was there. Even Antonio came.

" congratulations" they all spoke. Jay was the first one to come forward " I'm so happy for you er" he hugged her and she smiled uncontrollably. She withdrew from the hug and said to him " how were you able to keep this a secret from me?" She was suprised as to how stleathy he had done this all.

" I have my ways" he winked at her and smirked.

Everyone went around congraulatibg Erin and speaking to her.

" before we continue" Hank spoke from the door of his office " Erin will be on desk duty for a while, she will be partnered up with Ruzek" Jay and Erin looked at each other in shock, they weren't partners anymore. " I know what you both are thinking, and no you both can't be partners because well your married" Erin was about to say something else " and no, you will be on desk duty until I say otherwise so don't even both trying to have an argument with me" Erin sheepishly looked down as everyone else laughed at her getting shouted out by Hank.

The next day, Erin was ready for work. She slipped on a burgundy/ red shirt and her black jeans, she stood infront of the mirror and adjusted her wig. Jay saw her doing what she was doing and draped his arms around her stomach " I bet your wishing to put on your fancy pant suit" Erin rolled her eyes and he chuckled. " no, I am actually excited to be wearing this, remind me off the good old days"

" I am so happy right now Jay, I am married, the cancer is gone and I have my old job back.. I couldn't have wished for another life" he smiled as he heard her speak about positive things in her life,since she was always so adamant in thinking about the bad things rather the good ones. He kissed her shoulder and she placed her hand over his.

They both walked into work with Trudy at the desk " oh Erin, how happy I am to see you. To see you here at work, doing work" she spoke estactically and gave her a hug. She withdrew from the hug and Jay had his arms spreaded out he actually thought platt would give him a hug. As if, she thought.

" put those arms down Halstead, I ain't never given you a hug nor am I ever going to give you a hug, these hugs of mine are only for special people and you ain't one of them" she spoke sarcastically and walked back to her spot. Jay shrugged his shoulders as him and Erin walked up the stairs to buzz in " I mean it was worth a shot"

" you want to do the honours" jay pointed at the monitor to put her code in to get upstairs. She buzzed them in and walked upstairs.

" are you ready Lindsay?" Halstead asked as he looked over at his wife who was smiling, gosh whenever has she come to work with a huge smile on her face. She was always grumpy cause of the starts. He remembered a time when they got called in at 4 in the morning, she turned up at the crime scenes half eyes opened and a coffee in her steel cup barging through the cops and her co workers, not giving any shit whatsoever of  who came in the way, and whoever did say things to her she always shot them down with her cold glare which made people literally shit their pants.

" ready as ever Halstead" Jay broke out of his thoughts as the duo walked up the stairs.

" my partner they you are" Ruzek screamed as he walked over to Erin and pulled her into a bear hug and lifted her off her feet. " put me down Ruzek" she slapped him.

" oh boy I can't wait to work with you" he smirked and Erin could only say one thing " I've been here for 2 minutes and I already don't want to work with you... but I gotta do what the boss says" she grumbly said sarcastically, she knew Ruzek had her chair so she swapped them and gave him a big smile: oh she loved being here. Being here along her co workers and family, she felt like she was home and she had no intention of running away ever.
