Chapter 41: stronger together

" I can't do this Jay, I don't think I can do this" Erin screamed as she entered their apartment and slammed the door with Jay in tow.

" what do you mean you can't do this?" Jay questioned, Erin stopped in her tracks and turned around to Jay with her hands on her hips. She looked at him with tears and his heart broke little by little.

" what do you mean Erin?" He stepped closer to her by every word he said. " what do you mean you can't do this?" He screamed back.

" it means, I don't know how to do it. It means I don't even know if I want it" she turned around and locked her self in their bedroom, leaving Jay shocked behind.

12 hours before.

" alright, listen up everyone" Hank demanded as he came up the stairs and stood at the point of the team.

" I just got confirmation that the Holland crew is at the warehouse on 206 south Jefferson street, so suit up everybody" everyone ran down to the gear changing room and hooked themselves up with the gear uniform. As quickly as possible they drove out of the garage with the lights on not wanting to miss out on catching these guys.

" woah Erin calm down will you" Ruzek spoke as he held on to the handle on the side of the car. Oh how she loved scaring the bejesus out of him. It is quite the story.

" you should be used it to by name ruze" she smirked as she saw him look horrified . They arrived at the scene and positioned themselves behind the cars and guns ready in their hands.

" Erin and Ruzek go through the front, me and Hailey will go through the back and Jay and Atwater stay guard on all doors in and out, Al you and burgess circle the area and then meet me and Hailey at the back" Hank spoke into the radio letting his team know what the plan is.

" Chicago PD hands behind your hand" Erin screamed as she and Ruzek entered the house, they handcuffed the guys that were already in the warehouse. Shots had been fired, Ruzek and Erin wondered of in the direction which led to the back, they joined Hank and hailey to fight these guys off. Once all the chaos was over, Erin saw a guy from behind one of the boxes she turned around to point her gun at him but then BOOM.

" Erin" Adam screamed as he ran towards her, she felt herself falling backwards and hitting the ground hard. She heard Hank shooting the guy and running towards her.

" shots fired, I repeat shots fired.. we have an officer down. Send an ambulance right away"

On the out skirts, Halstead heard Adam's voice through the radio and his heart sank. His pushed his way into the warehouse looking and hoping that it wasn't Erin who got shot. When he found his team members, all huddling over a person he knew it was Erin.

" Erin" he screamed as he ran towards her placing his gun in his safety belt and sat on the ground. The bullet had just nicked her shoulder.

" I'm fine Jay, it's only a small bullet wound. Nothing that can't be fixed" only in these type of situations Erin would be hopeful.

" where's the damn ambulance!" Jay placed his hands over the wound to stop the bleeding, he looked up and saw Ruzeks concerned face but right now he couldn't console him. " hey hey I'm fine" she put her hand over him and squeezed it, tears were threatening to fall out.

" why are you always getting yourself shot?"

" next time it's your turn" she laughed a little bit which made him laugh in return. In that time the ambulance came and took her away, Jay went with her whilst the rest of the team members logged in the accident and Hank was going to meet them there.

They made her sit in the ED whilst the doctor stitched up her blood wound and stopped the bleeding, they took extra tests just to be sure as she had hit the ground.

" why are you always here? Your missing me too much tiger" will Halstead made an appearance into the room. Jay just rolled his eyes as he was concernydsged on the doctor doing her stitches.

"Yes William, I get myself shot my purpose so I can come see your face" Jay didn't miss the way she used his full name and snorted at that. Erin on the other hand was grateful that he laughed, he had been so concerned in the ambulance and he was so concerntrsted with the stitches that the doctor was doings.

" all done, we will give you some medicine for the pain, don't use the arm to much so I'm going to say something I only say to cops.. no shooting for a while" with that the doctor left the room telling will all the medical lingo that the cops didn't understand.

Jay went out to let Hank know that she's alright, he came in and checked in on her letting her know he had to head back to the precinct to fill out enormous amount of paperwork for this drug bust. The Halsteads and Lindsay were engrossed in the conversation that they didn't realise Dr. Manning came in.

" hi Erin, how you feeling?" She asked her. " felt like I got shot" she snorted. Will kept his laughter in as she spoke and Jay sent him a glare.

" anyway I have your result, your CT came clear all good there.. but.."

" b-but what?" She sat up as she was scared that she cancer had come back.

" no no it's not come back, it's actually great news.. your pregnant" Erin gasped as she heard what Natilie had to say. This wasn't possible she thought.

Jays heart was jumping up and down in excitement, he couldn't believe this. " babe we're pregnant, your pregnant" he said to her, she looked at him and said nothing. Natilie powered up the baby monitor to check if the baby wasn't injured during the raid. She gave the go ahead that the baby was perfectly fine and it was too early to listen for a heart beat. She left the room after having Erin the good news, will was about to leave the room when Erin had stopped him.

" how is it possible will?" That was the first thing she said since she found out. Will looked back at her and stalked towards her " this is very rare Erin, majority of the people who  go through heavy chemo aren't able to conceive but you did Tigar" he smiled and left them alone, giving a nod to Jay. Jay realised that she was overthinking the whole thing and it was understandable so he didn't push her. He rang Voight telling him everything was good and wanted Erin to tell him the good news. They made their way home in quiet.

Present.

He couldn't believe this, they were back at this moment again. Jay slid down the door and placed his hand over it. " er I know you can hear me, listen to me babe we can do this, the cancer you had isn't going to affect the baby. You asked will and I spoke to nat about everything. The baby is safe and will always be safe" he didn't hear movement from the room, he went into the kitchen to make her something to eat since she hadn't ate since breakfast.

Erin was pacing in their room, it had been nearly a year and a half since her chemo ended. She was happy with her life, she was at that moment where she felt no burden, no sadness in her life. She placed her hand on her stomach " baby I don't know if you can hear me but I want you I really do but I am really scared. Your father... will be an amazing dad.. but me... I am nothing a mother should be" she whispered as she let the tears slide down her cheeks.

Jay had been waiting for her for nearly 2 hours now, he was about to out the food away when he heard the door handle click, he slowly walked over as Erin opened the door. Her face full of tears, her nose was bright red along with her eyes. His heart broke as he saw her state, he knew what she was thinking, with the chemo and everything it was expected for her to overthink this whole situation.

She ran towards his arms, he hugged her tightly making sure not to hurt her shoulder or neck.  as he embraced her and she sobbed in his chest. He kissed the top of her head. " I am so sorry Jay I am just so scared I was scared about my condition about me being a mother.. everything" Jay lifted her face from his chest and cradled her face in his hands.

" I know you are baby, I'm scared too, but I know if you're with me I will be safe.. we will take extra precautions. We will do everything to make sure this baby is safe" she laughed a teary laugh.

" we're having a baby Jay" she spoke as he wiped her tears.

" we're having a baby er" he lifted her up and twirled her around.

He couldn't have Imagined another life, they were  so happy in that moment that they forgot about all their sorrows and worries.
