Chapter 42: telling the family

Hank was getting the food ready for the Sunday roast. It had been a long time since him Justin and Erin had some quality time together, he missed these moments between them. It was the only way they would see each other properly, he of course saw Erin everyday at work but it was professional. Jay and Olivia plus Daniel were also coming so it would be a big family Sunday roast and Hank couldn't help but remember his late wife Camille. He stopped cooking as he could imagine her stressing over the food. He would come into the kitchen to taste the food and she would always swat his hand away and give him a shouting in which Erin would laugh at, it gave her an upper hand in a way.

He was broken out of his thought as the door opened, he wiped his tears quickly not wanting his children know.

" papa" Daniel little legs ran as he hugged his grandpas legs. Hank pulled him into his arms and started making baby noises with him.

Erin nudged Jay " this is the only time you will see him sappy otherwise he has another side which you know" Halstead nodded, he knew exactly what she was talking about. Justin and the rest of the family met Hank and spoke for a while. Jay was sat outside with Justin and olivia. As Daniel had been put down for his nap, Erin slipped out of the conversation to help Hank set up. She helped herself to the dishes when she heard someone clear her throat, she looked back and saw Hank staring at her " what?" She shrugged her shoulders. He gave her a pointed look and she knew what he was thinking.

" I have learnt don't you worry, I will not mess up your so called organisation skills" he scoffed and smiled as she set down the dishes, once they were set everyone was called inside for their food.

"Hmm I can't believe the last time I ate delicious food" Erin talked about, Jay looked at her with a look. " what? You do make good food Jay it's just no one can beat hanks cooking" Hank laughed at that and so did everyone else " yeah Halstead I'm better in the kitchen and out in the field than you" Jay just loved getting picked on didn't he? Whenever he was with Erin and Hank they would always start on him, but sometimes it would be the other way around him and Hank versus Erin but that was very likely. Once everyone finished eating, the plates were in the dishwasher and Olivia Justin and Daniel went for a walk. Erin and Jay found Hank in his study.

" we have something to tell you" Erin spoke, she lifted the bag that was behind her back and put it infront of Hank. " it's not my birthday yet so what's all this about?" His raspy voice asked.

" can you just open it no questions please"

Hank opened the bag and what was there confused him, he lifted out a tiny t shirt which stayed " grandad gives the best hugs" Erin watched as he was startled, she squeezed jays hand in response. Hank was just frozen, he couldn't believe it his sweet little girl was pregnant " are you being serious?" They could both tell he was trying his best not to cry. All Jay could see in those wrinkled eyes were pride and joy for the girl that stood beside them.

Hank would around his desk and hugged Erin who was in tears too " I am so so proud of you kiddo, I cannot wait for my grandchild to be here. You have made my day today" Erin hugged him back tightly, he let go of her and kissed her on the head. He shaked jays hand " you done it right Jay, I'm glad you didn't knock her before you got married"

" I would have done it but then you would have killed me" Jay laughed as Hank had also laughed.

After a while Justin and his family were back and Erin had also told him, Justin was over the moon he could not wait to see his niece and nephew. Erin was going to stay the night at hanks so Jay left when Justin had left. Erin went to her room to get dressed and ready for bed, she was brushing her hair when she saw Hank standing there. " for goodness sake, are you planning to give me my 100th heart attack" Hank remembered the days when he would just startle the life out of her and she would get so annoyed. Hank walked over to her " Camille would be jumping up down with happiness if she was here" Erin nodded her head as she stopped the tears coming down her face.

" you are going to be a great mother Erin, don't you ever forget that I will be here reminding you about that everyday. You never doubt yourself okay. I have watched you with children, I have watched you with Justin and Daniel you are going to be an amazing mother no doubt" and with that all the doubts and thoughts Erin had when she found out she was pregnant were disappeared that's all she needed to hear.

Voight was not sat in his bedroom as he held the ultrasound picture Erin had handed to him in her room. He placed it right next to Camilles photo. " our kid is having a kid, Erin is having a child and I could not be more prouder of the girl. I am proud of both my children they have overcome so much crap in their life they are where they need to be Camille.. I love you" he whispered.
